It is an uplifting story, and, I think that anyone who faces similar odds and succeeds as well deserves similar praise.
Yes. And, as this story points out, most of that help (aside from the basics that everyone -rich or poor - gets; i.e., public K-12 school, public transportation, etc.) the extra help this gal received came from individuals or the private sector, who are generally more than happy to help out those who are willing to work hard.

BTW, thanks for the praise.

This is a remarkable story, and one we don't hear about all too often, it is the more negative we seem to hear about.

This young women, could have very easily gone the opposite direction. But with this young womens Will, Determination, Desire, and Ambition, to change her life for the better. She has achieved her goal thus far. So many do not take this path this women has decided on, to better her life, and prove that hard work, and ambition will pay off.
She says it best, why can't others who have more then her feel this way. The only person you can really count on is yourself. And she says it best when she states, And there are no excuses not to have ambition!

Really?

You consider this statement to be "Hyperbole, distortion, fear-mongering, and more hyperbole."

"And, yes, she's still to be commended. I never said she shouldn't be. She showed the dedication and self-discipline to take advantage of everything offered to her to move forward in life. Anybody can do the same thing if they want to badly enough. Sadly, many do not. "

Sounds to me like a page right out of the conservative playbook.

Circumstances, luck, and the brain you are born with (not created equal btw) cover most of it. Hard work and determination come in second and often depend on the brain you are born with...haha.

Yes, distortion. And now you're engaging in the same. All that crap in his post about Republicans taking away these government-provided niceties....and you chose to quote the above?

If you're going to take sides, at least try not to be disingenuous in what you're defending.
