Right. Watch the already deteriorated infrastructure collapse, no money for science and health research, fed allocations to states slashed so state workers are furloughed again (remember that?) and state svcs not only cut to the bone (where some are already), but shut down completely, the National Guard -- eliminated, oh, and what about those wars? Or should we just hang a big "WELCOME" sign to jihadists, because we can no longer afford a military, except for defensive purposes at home? Are you volunteering to sell Congress on the idea of cutting its own pay and perks?

Yeah, that'll work. I thought April Fool's Day doesn't come around until April. Or did you decide to move it to Valentine's Day? lol Maybe not such a bad idea...

Republicans practice supply side/trickle down economics, this is an economic principle where tax cuts are given to the very wealthy and large corporations. Examples,

The Bush tax cuts gave the 20% of American's making $36,000–59,000 a year 9% of the tax cuts, and then gave the richest 1% of Americans 51% of the tax cuts.
Bush Tax Cuts After 2002: June 2002 CTJ Analysis

Mitt Romney's proposed tax cuts would have given the wealthy and large corporations $6.6 trillion dollars in tax cuts and gave absolutely nothing to the middle class.
https://thinkprogress.org/romneys-ec...s-52314de0d724

And Donald Trump's tax cuts will raise the poorest 20% of Americans after-tax income by 0.8%, raise the middle classes after-tax income by 1.5%, and then raise the richest 1% of Americans after-tax income by 13.5% and raise the richest 0.1% of Americans after-tax income by 14.2%.
Forbes Welcome

Its impossible to talk about lowering taxes for the staff with republicans, because the staff does not get tax cuts with supply side economics (the staff only sometimes gets a couple of tax cut crumbs so republican politicians and republican news groups can say everyone got a tax cut.)

My wife thinks it is pure political mud slinging (say the most outrageous thing you can get by with and hope it sticks). Is she right?
of course you are completely correct. There is no doubt that people in the USA pay lower taxes than the majority of developed nations. The facts are irrefutable.

and higher income means you pay vastly less. we pay very little because we are allowed by law to structure our monies and investments in such a fashion as to not have to pay much at all.

Gee, the USA SURVIVED the Spanish-American War with a tax load of 0.09% of the GDP. (Compared to 20% today)
In 1910, AMERICA funded the Panama Canal. . . Had the world's largest rail network . . . Even supported professional sports - with matches scheduled during BUSINESS HOURS (!) Who were all those rich dudes sitting on the bleachers watching those games?

But today's aggregate tax load (local, state and federal) amounts to 44% of the GDP - - - a peon in Pharaoh's Egypt had a better deal (20% - one part in five).

In those days people were using horses as transportation and watching sports games during the day because sports stadiums did not have lights. But today we fly in airplanes and watch nighttime sporting events under lights on TV.

Modern day America's lifestyle requires (expensive) things like radar systems and satellites in space, and a modern government needs more tax revenues and citizens pay higher taxes to finance our modern infrastructure.

The issue with big government being evil began back in the 1980's with the tax cuts, of course that is when we also began record spending on the defense budget. Government is inefficient but it's necessary for civilization, food inspectors, roads, airports are all necessary for high standard of living. They really need to remove the tax cuts but instead of that they are proposing a larger reduction in taxes which will result in larger deficits, we are moving in the wrong direction.

My opinion on the subject is that everyone is willing to take lower taxes but the moment you suggest higher one on them, they scream and fuss. And to be fair, taxes are, at a certain point, unethical, immoral, and theft. If you think about it, the government is just another business, that today, we have very little say in. This is an issue as they take our money and use it for their own ends which sometimes aligns with some or part of our goals.

So to answer you, I believe a limited progressive tax with tax shelters for those who know how to be financially responsible is best. By keeping it limited and allowing tax breaks/shelters, it forces the government to be thrifty and not go into deficits as well as cuts down the welfare state that has been allowed to foster. Furthermore, you can't have a bunch of entitled ***** screaming about free this and free that when there is no funding for it, can you?

The tax cuts started with JFK back in the 60s.

I say no taxes at all, and we're far from that... but in any case, people are always free to donate more voluntarily if they really think the government will spend it well...

How would a society function without taxes? I am just curious.
