So you don't care about heterosexual defacto couples or their children either?
Same-sex marriage was already illegal in NC.
Amendment One is like using a Hydrogen bomb to kill ants in an empty ant-hill.
Exactly. In actuality this Amendment hurts straight people more than gay people by actually removing rights that unmarried straight couples had before this. The NC government played this perfectly. Say they are banning gay marriage (which was already done) and people won't even blink at voting for it.
And you people thought David Copperfield was good at slight of hand.

The good news is that at the end of 2012, like at the end of three of the last four years (2008, 2009 and 2011), same-sex marriage will be legal in more states than it was when the year began.
Progress, unfortunately slow but at least continual.

Yep. Throw in some advertisements with people telling you to vote for the amendment to keep marriage as "god" intended it to be. Add in a few preachers telling you that you must support the amendment to save marriage, and a bit of pot stirring in the black church community to convince people that gay rights has absolutely no ties to civil rights and reinforcing the idea of how "different" gay folks supposedly are from you, and you have a solid base of people willing to go out and blindly vote for something that they didn't know the first thing about. As I stated in an earlier post, they created the perfect storm of ignorance, bigotry, and fear. Including the item during an off cycle election instead of waiting until November was strategic as well. So they will amend the constitution because people wanted to ban something that was already banned long ago, and the amendment will do harm to people who aren't even gay. The ignorance and stupidity surrounding this mess is so thick you could cut it with a freakin' knife.
The states don't have a choice in sanctioning homosexual sex anymore. The Supreme Court took control of that one.
But you're saying that the referenda on same-sex marriage are really referenda on homosexuality? That's not what a lot of conservatives say. They say they're not anti-gay, they just believe in traditional marriage. Are you now accusing even your fellow conservatives of being two-faced?
The two worst things about ultra conservatives is their face.
