Many people believe that George W. Bush sucked as a President.

No, that doesn’t fully encapsulate the popular negative sentiment toward him:

many people believe he is responsible for much that is wrong with the entire world, financially and socially, today. Most people don’t know how the hell it all happened.

That’s why I went to see Russ Baker, author of Family of Secrets: the Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means for America, speak at the New York Public Library.

I tend to run from conspiracy theorists, so I was glad to see that’s not what this book is. The book is based on fact, and fact alone.

There is no conjecture.

Mr. Baker doesn’t even believe there is some insidious conspiracy with an evil, shared plot; he just believes there is a handful of corrupt people with all the power that no one in journalism is willing to talk about.

Bush was put in office precisely because he was an idiot and would do whatever he was told the do, the man couldnt make a single decision on his own because he was an idiot. All the problems that he is responsible for, from the lies to invade Iraq, to the 1.8 trillion on tax cuts, to the bailout of Wall Street, to the runaway spending and hyper deficit under his watch, to the endless corruption, was all by design.

It was not Bush being a bad President, it was the result of the very powerful interests who put him in office in the first place engineering extreme wealth from the litany of bad decisions that Bush was told to make.

People still hate Bush because they see how things have just gotten worse from the end of his time there. Not everything is his fault but having a man with a simple minded worldview who is basically a puppet for Karl Rove in the White House just wasn't a good idea. His economic deregulation set the banks to fail and let all kinds of shenanigans go on. Obama's weak economic reform didn't do much because the Congress is so infested in both parties with corporate types who protect the people at the top. It's sickening corruption top to bottom.

The same people that was looking for a useful idiot to control in the White House has been doing that for a couple of decades. The present useful idiot is no exception.
