My lifestyle involves reading lots of fiction, cooking and hosting small dinner parties, swimming and running, skiing, rabidly supporting the Denver Broncos, hiking biking and camping, spending time with my niece (although I haven't been able to do what while I've been out in New York), and argumentation. I didn't realize I'd shared these things about me with you before (except for the last one obviously).
Why is the USA so filled with homosexual bigots who constantly attack those of religious faith?
Don't know about the whole homosexual angle but they aren't the only people "attacking" people of religious faith (if that's what you want to call it). The religio-nuts have been the ones to launch an assault on everyone else's freedoms in the name of their religion and the Gays aren't the only people that are sick of it.
If the religio-nuts would leave people the hell alone, they'd find their beliefs under less attack.
LOL! I turned the thread towards an "ugly" direction? How so? I am not the person who first used the term "bigot". You can credit Sanspeur with that honor.
Sorry, but where I come from "deviant" is a LOT more inflammatory than "bigot".
Is it because there are so many fundamentalist Christians, or is there some other reason?...Giving gays equal rights takes nothing away from anyone. Since we have done this in Canada the bigotry has pretty much faded away...
Being anti-gay-marriage does NOT mean someone is anti-gay. I know, you will argue the point, but you would be wrong.
Believing that gay people should not have equal access to our civil, secular laws is the position of somebody who is anti-gay.

Now answer my question - why can't gays accept a civil partnership, with everything being equal to a marriage, except the word "marriage"?
We have civil partnerships in the law - they are called civil marriages. I'm completely fine with renaming civil marriage though. I don't care what the law is called as long as I an not denied access to it because I'm gay. But until we do, there is no justification to deny me access to civil marriage law and the civil rights it confers.
Perhaps it would go smooter if the homosexuals toned down the "everybody hates me" attitude.
Just an idea....
