A last-ditch effort by Colorado's governor to give gay couples in the state rights similar to married couples failed Monday after Republicans rejected the proposal during a special legislative session.
GOP kills civil unions in Colorado special session - US news - msnbc.com

It's funny. They used to criticize homosexuals for pushing for same-sex marriage, and they'd say that they were okay with civil unions. Now they don't even approve of civil unions.

What's next? Will Republicans try to make homosexuality illegal again?

Just another example of religion poking it's nose in where it doesn't belong.

Some would love to do so. It is simply the GOP showing their true colors. The tide is turning and sooner or later ALL Americans will enjoy the same legal rights and benefits, count on it.

You got that completely wrong. Republicans are in huge support of equality. Especially if equality means that some citizens are more equal than others.

It's because the Republican party is being controlled by the religious right. It's the reason I left the Republican party.

Perhaps city-data should start a homosexual issues board.

But no one would read it and the attention seeking homosexuals would have no audience other than their echo chamber of mutual admiration.

The Religious Right's stranglehold on the GOP is a key reason the state has shifted so much. Look at what has happened in suburban Denver.

We might not like it, but that's the democratic process.

You cannot change politicians, they are all ho's.

You have to get the people behind you.

Why do you think Obama's views "evolved"? It's because they did extensive polling and he found out he could pick up votes\contributions and not get hurt too bad by the topic.

The usual oversimplification; no one has yet brought up the point that "civil unions" -- whether gay or straight -- represent another potential burden on an already-overstrained pension system and societal "safety net".

For millions of people struggling to hold jobs, pay their bills, and nurture thier families whle not-that-committed "couples" live it up, the central issue is obvious.

We know what you boys and girls want, but Uncle Sugar can't afford it; now run along and play nice with each other.
