I really got ticked off when I saw a "comparison" on the Sirius Satellite Radio website a few years ago. It implied that Sirius was available with more cars than XM Satellite Radio was. There was a list of car BRANDS under the Sirius list, like Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, etc. It said that GM was the only "car company" (that term is kind of ambiguous) in partnership with XM. A fair comparison would look like this:

Sirius: Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda

XM: Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac

So in other words, it gave a list of BRANDS which offered Sirius, but named one large COMPANY which offered XM. It's embarrassing how dumb most of the public is. Most people would probably be fooled by this. I should have told XM and they should have sued. Amazingly, Sirius ended up swallowing XM...

Wikipedia makes a distinction between a car's "make" (for example Dodge) and a car's "maker" (for example Chrysler Corporation). Sirius probably wanted to confuse people, taking advantage of the fact that GM is a maker but not a make, but "Ford", "Chrysler", "Toyota", "Honda", and "Nissan" are all the names of makes as well as makers. Ford also makes Mercury. Chrysler also makes Dodge. Toyota also makes Lexus and Scion. Honda also makes Acura. Nissan also makes Infiniti. Get the picture?

And Government Motors no longer makes Pontiac so take that one off your list.

Isn't this blatantly false advertising though? Deception is one thing, lying is another...
