Everyone understands that pot was made illegal in the 20'th century..right?
I think it is silly to keep it illegal. I just got back from Amsterdam and Prague where you can smoke it legally... guess what... I still didn't. Give people credit to make choices that are right for them. I'd say make all drugs available and legal, end the war on drugs, and treat those with addiction issues. If heroin were legal.. I still would not do it.... It would be nice to have the choice, and stop putting people in jail for drug issues.. It would also eliminate the drug trade.... imagine what that would bring... kill off the money making machines for organized crime. Want national security?... try that.
If someone wants to partake in the privacy of their own home, its none of anyone elses business what they are doing, as long as no one is getting hurt.
Marijuana is safer then alcohol for the body, its not physically addictive, and the standard field sobriety test works to find people driving under the influence.
Hell, marijuana legalization should be in the fore front as much as gay marriage rights are.
Banning homosexuals from marrying the mate of their choice is wrong, and against their civil liberties.
People trying to keep me from smoking a j are infringing on my freedom and civil liberties.
Those in the pot trade will simply switch to meth, coke, or whatever the demand is for illegal drugs.
Not true at all. There are two kinds of 'pot dealers' -
1. Drug dealers
2. Marijuna dealers
Drug dealers sell all drugs and always will. This is big organized crime circles. Not only do they do business in the drug trade, they have other 'investments' as well. Most of the dealers don't have a real job.
Those who sell Marijuana and marijuana only are totally about the plant and are not all inclusive 'drug dealers'. In fact most marijuana folks are against hard drugs like meth and heroin.
If it was made legal...
They would continue to grow and/or sell but not make as much money. Likely if it was made to be legal they would adapt in some way by either becoming a consultant for those who want to grow thier own, start strain nurseries, seed banks and more.
One of the things that irks me the most about societies impression of marijuana and the people who use is that they are viewed as hard violet criminals. It's not the pot that creates violence, it's greed and money.
Just as there are two kinds of drug dealers, there are two kinds of marijuana users.
There are dysfunctional people who will do what ever chemical comes thier way, and tend to be violent or irrational anyway. These are the people that have a predisposition to be addictive as well as unstable.
There are those who can enjoy marijuana the same way someone someone has a beer or cup of coffee.
If anyone wants to argue that coffee does not compare to marijuana, save it. Coffee can be addictive, drinking coffee everyday and all day to stay awake and alert...is no different than smoking a joint to relax. Also, quiting a coffee habit will bring on a massive headache that more coffee will take away.
There are no withdrawals from Marijuana.
It should be made legal. There is no solid reason, no danger and so many benefits from the plant that is would help the world more than hinder it. Being illegal is hindering and is damaging the lives of good responsible people who want to be able to do as they wish and are not harming anyone.

All very good points, as well as a good post. Rep to you.
P.S. I also agree with Memphis about legalization of marijuana being at the forefront along with gay rights, as it's prohibition violates individual liberties.
I think people are pretty apathetic when it comes to reforming laws against marijuana. This is so well reflected by how great and frequent the debates on here are more numerous and last long on abortion and homosexuality while the debates on marijuana peter out rather quickly.
