Your interpretation of our president is very different than mine. I see him as quintessentially American, a person from a diverse racial and ethnic background who applied himself and rose to great heights. I think his orientation to the world is not particularly Muslim or Christain, but secular. I think he was raised by white people, but he grew up in a time when no one let him forget he was black.

He chose to embrace his racial identity as a teenager and young adult and learned what it truly meant to be a black American, but he didn't forget his fundamental and instictual understanding of white people. This made him a bridge, which is often what the finest leaders humanity has produced are -- a bridge stretched across contrasting elements.

I think at his core he is something most of our presidents have not been, an introspective, speculative person. Americans like their leaders to be men of action. Had we known what Obama truly was he probably wouldn't have won in 2008. He was billed as a rock star, but really, he is more Harold Bloom than Mick Jagger. He combines an unsually high curiousty about the world around him with a high amount of discpline which enables him to effect his will on the world.

I think his perspective is more global than American, which for certain elements is inexcusable. However, for many of us, America was, is and will always be a global nation. We are fluid. That's our strength. Obama is first president with roots in the "colonies" (i.e. Hawaii), but he is far from the last. As we move into the 21st century, we'll see more and more of his kind. The same happened to Rome as it matured. Our reach now stretches far beyond the Rockies and the Appalacians. (As I type this, I sit in the shadows of the Hindu Kush, an American flag proudly affixed to my right shoulder to make it clear I am here to do our nation's bidding in a far-flung land.)

Obama may lose the election in 2012. However, the vision of America that he represents won a long, long time ago. I understand you are older, but you are swimming against the tide. Future presidents will not be black or white, Christain or Muslim, rich or poor. The term "post modern" is now dated, but the concept it expresses is still very much alive ... a person who has become dislocated from a central cultural tradition. That's Obama. That's America. That's who we are and where we're at. I suggest you accomodate yourself to this reality or face irrelevancy.

Yes, it is astonishing how many wealthy people are on this board. Indeed, I have yet to meet a poor person here.

Some really idiotic responses...I say Obama. 1.Hitler wasn't a jew. 2. He wrote Mein Kampf which didn't dedicate anything to his mother or father he did talk about them both but didn't dedicate it to either.Ah so many things are wrong with it being even close to Hitler.

I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me.

Although my father deserted me and my mother raised me, I later wrote a book idolizing my father----not my mother.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

My birth records were sketchy.

No one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my new country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs and didn't follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and embarked on a new career.

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up.

It was clear to those who read my memoirs, that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

I became active in local politics in my 30's then, with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40's.

They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization.

Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me, as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances.

This bolstered my ego.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy...

I was very critical of my country in the last war, and seized every opportunity to bash my country.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy.

I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better, and every poor person would be fed and housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.

It was the free market, banks and corporations.

I decided to start making citizens hate them and, if they became envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

I called mine "A People's Campaign."

That sounded good to all people.

I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope', together we could change our country and the world..

So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities".

My true views were not widely known and I kept them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.

I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with. I'm glad they didn't.

Then I became the most powerful man in the world.

And then the world learned the truth.

Who am I?
You are Adolph Hitler.

Anyone who think's otherwise, the really pointed line of
