My brother was saved by the screening. They found cancer. He had the operation and chemo, now he is alive but would have been dead if he hadn't got the screening.
I think too many men and their doctors won't agree with this.

Prostate test screening is controversial because of it low effectiveness in reducing deaths, the side effects resulting from over-diagnosis from the tests, including impotence, incontinence, and bowel disorders, and its high costs....I have known for a few years that a digital rectal examination is superior for early detection of prostrate cancer...I hate the exam, but I deal with it.
Well, prostrate cancer is something you die with not off. Unless you're an African-american in which case its a real risk.
But cancer treatments generate a lot of revenue, they tend to be high cost. And its pretty rare for people not to want treatment if they've been diagnosed with cancer, even if that cancer is not going to be a problem until they are 120 years old.
Of course, not treating prostrate cancer isn't going to do Americas cancer survival any good, since a significant fraction of the advantage America registers is due to detecting harmless prostrate cancers and then ticking up good five year survival rates.
Still, it sounds like an eminintly sensible policy. As long as you got a program for screening African-americans.
It is quite obvious they are looking for ways to try and pay for this nonsense and letting a few folks die to avoid paying for the screening is a good way to start. I wonder what will be next on the chopping block. So Obamacare wants to pay for birth control but let men die. Is this a war on men? If it were the other way around I know some would be howling at the moon right now. LOL
(CBS News) A top panel of health experts called the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says that men should no longer get routine prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests to screen for prostate cancer. The reason, it says, is that the tests may lead to treatments that do more harm than good........
My own experience is that my PSA tests go up and down, and that they sometimes go up to incredible levels. There are numerous reasons for this, and my experience is not unique. I do not have any signs of cancer whatsoever.
Certainly I cannot depend upon a PSA test to detect prostate cancer, I must resort to more sophisticated examinations, and do. I doubt that I am alone in this.

Actually this is round two. Wasn't it just a while ago that they came out and said women don't need pap tests done or something along those lines. Soon we will be told we don't even need doctors just to eat an apple a day.
In their honest moments, they admit that Obamacare is just a step in the direction they want to go, which is nationalized healthcare. Almost by definition, nationalized healthcare involves panels of some type making decisions about what will be covered and what will not, i.e. rationing. I'm fine callling them death panels because these decisions will impact life and death.
Obama has surrounded himself with like minded people, like his guy Donald Berwick, who wasn't confirmed, largely because he was at least completely open about his love of the British nationalized healthcare system and the need to ration healthcare:
These guys know they can't do this in one fell swoop here in the US like they want, but they can do it incrementally, which is what Obamcare is all about.
