It's the mentality not the intent..
Socialism is not welfare. You can have a welfare state that is capitalist, you can have a welfare state that is socialist. It is a different issue.

Seriously, do conservatives realize how ignorant they come across whent hey bandy the word about?

People are using the terms socialism in reference to programs that have socialists traits, think we all understand that...people don't look ignorant...believe we all know the difference. Many people feel like too many of our Govt programs are taking on these traits.

Advances in technology will probably eliminate most of the menial (and many of the skilled) jobs which companies currently employ humans to perform. At that point, it would seem that some kind of socialism would basically become inevitable, if only to avoid constant social unrest.

I want the free ride Romney gets. He pays a lower tax rate than I do and I earn less money than he does! How is that not class warfare?

Reporters wrong: Romney pays a far higher federal tax rate than most Americans | Just Facts Daily

Based upon the facts above and the details of Romney’s personal tax return, Just Facts and Ceterus calculate that Romney paid somewhere between 18.4% and 26.0% of his 2010 income in federal taxes (Excel file).

Romney’s 2010 personal tax return itemizes $3,009,766 in federal taxes.
The federal tax burden for middle-class households, which is 14.3%.

So he paid $3 million taxes, are you saying you paid more than 3 million..how many more people should he support with his income taxes?
What free ride did he get?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings, and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED. The professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great. But when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that.

Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.
Try this experiment. Everyone who studies will get the grade they deserve.

On the first test everyone studied hard. The distributions was a natural curve A-F with most getting B and C.

After the first test, the professor began to charge more for study guides and though a few students protested, most just ate the expense. The average grade remained the same.

After the second test the professor decided to allow bids for the study guides with only 50% available. The price per study guides went up 10 fold with some willing to rent them out for a time.

Grades began to drop.

After the third test, only 10% of the student body could get a study guide. Prices became so high that they went into debt to purchase them. The revenue for the professor kept rolling in with less work in creating study guides. Scarcity is such bliss...

After the mid term only 5% were provided. Grades dropped precipitously and others calculated it would be cheaper to drop out than pursue a career option that cannot justify the debt overhead.

When the reward is confiscated by rent seekers, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that.
