Honestly, too many people are going to college just to say they are going to college. It makes it even worse when many kids go to expensive schools and accumulate massive loan debt in the process. Now you can go to college and major in whatever you feel like but when scenarios like this play out.

Do not be surprised when you are stuck in a predicament.

Default Dear Graduates: You are screwed

It is that time of year again. Politicians, mostly of the progressive stripe are delivering graduation speeches and telling kids the normal poop that they have always told them. Here we have a man who admits that nobody has asked him to deliver the message, but surely most of you can quickly see why that is so.

He tells the kids that many won't have marketable majors like in Caribbean pygmys, Eskimo studies along with many kinds of social society studies. He tells them that too many of them will have to go back to their parent's basements of may join up with others in the Occupy movement and so on.

That sounds like the usual retort put forward by people who don't understand college and often are jealous as they couldn't go.

That theatre studies major would know how to think critically, do pure research, write effectively and defend their own ideas. The business schools are now in a rush to try to incorporate some of these things as they've largely been pumping out people who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag.

The problem with graduates right now is the economy and increasing cost of education.

Dear Roysoldboy,

You created a duplicate thread.

No way theatre is more challenging than business.

There's no excuse for disingenuous posts either. Degrees in theater studies don't pay the bills. There is a reason why people with degrees in those majors can't find jobs. If you're stupid enough to major in those types of degrees and expect to get a job that pays well enough to pay off your student loans, then good luck to you. And save your "You're jealous you couldn't go to college" rhetoric. I'm sure I have more formal education and degrees than you do, so let's not go there.

I actually have two degrees, since you took it that point. I pose a question for you: why are college costs rising? A good reason is more and more kids are being pushed into college for social status, not for expanding their minds. I started college in 1998 and 14 years later, at the same college, the enrollment has dramatically increased even when more and more graduates are not finding work. Very logical.
