You know this is nothing but blaming the poor for what they eat. Poor people are not the only ones who are fat or obese & I seriously doubt that people on food stamps load up on cases of soda.
As for the taxpayer question? I pay taxes but can I tell the Pentagon what to do with MY taxpayer money? No so stop meddling into what they buy & mind your dang business!
That's no fun. I can't feel outraged or indignant or superior if I do that!
How do you propose to feed those people that are in need and deserve it?
What we really need is a smaller, tighter run program that is monitored better to help eliminate fraud. This is true of all social programs though. The current system of shouting from the rooftops "come get your food stamps!" is begging for problems.

Bring them food to their house, and have a traveling social worker go into their kitchen to access what tools they have to cook, and teach them very basic cooking. A lot of time people are poor because when they do get windfalls or extra money, they do not know how to stretch it further or manage it. Gone are the days when all women knew how to make a cheap meal out of things like potatos, onions, chicken legs, and dry beans. I think we need to go back and teach this generation how to conserve, and to help them acheive financial goals such as having extra money at the end of the month, even if it is just $10. But, if generation after generation doesn't know anything beyond "hot pockets and cola" and how to get more "hot pockets and cola" for free, how are you ever going to stop the cycle?

That's rediculous. The resources would be so great that EVERYONE would be working for a social service group! Some people just don't have the income to support themselves and have no other sources of money. Elderly people, who probably know more about everything than you, come to mind. Don't lump all people in a single catagory, that's a huge mistake people make.
Personally I feel if folks need help then they should be given bulk goods to prepare at home if they desire more then they can get out and work for it.
