It's why I wouldn't move there. I live in Ohio, and that is far enough north for me.

Also, I have seen photos of this girl, and if the only drug she is abusing is marijuana, I'm Mother Teresa.

I agree with this totally......I doubt if marijuana ALONE warped her mind enough to forget her child. I also feel that their are some that use marijuana for other reasons then just to go through life stoned. This issue should not be about marijuana itself, it should be about young parents in need of parenting and the use of ANY drug (and we all know there was more then just marijuana in this girls use) while being in the care of a child......

Humans use recreational drugs for the same reason they use prescription and OTC drugs--they make us feel better. So the answer to the question "why do people need recreational drugs anyway?" is this: all creatures do things that give them pleasure, and try to avoid things that make them feel worse. If we did not have these basic and instinctual motivations, we would simply lay down and die.

Even the most isolated, stone-age tribes were using natural substances as recreational drugs when discovered. For instance, the Yanomami Tribe of South America was only discovered by outsiders (Europeans) in the 18th Century: "Their most favored drug of choice is natural hallucinogens that are generally referred to by the generic name of ebene. It is extracted in its raw form from various types of trees and plants, ground into powder form and mixed together with saliva. The men of the village usually make a batch of ebene everyday following a hard day's gardening or hunting." Pilot Guides.com:Yanomami Tribe

Recreational drugs make most people feel better than they did before taking them. It is the reason totally normal people drink coffee or tea in the morning (caffeine), and alcohol when socializing. Unfortunately, there are people who are genetically susceptible to certain substances, and end up using them to the point where very negative effects occur (alcoholism and drug abuse). This occurs with both recreational and prescription drugs. Our government's approach of criminalizing drug abuse, instead of treating it, doesn't solve or even lessen the problem. Instead, it creates huge problems for society, such as massive under-medication of extremely painful and often fatal medical conditions.

As to the second question, the answer is often yes. With our inner cities stripped of jobs, large portions of the minority male population in prison and families consequently destroyed, and non-existent upward mobility, the future is very bleak for many in our society.

It is not as cold as you might think. South-central Alaska is certainly warmer than Ohio, but we do get more snow. South-eastern Alaska is even warmer.

Twenty plants is just about right for one person. You plant two cuttings every other week for 20 weeks (4 plants per month for 5 months). By the time you plant your twentieth plant, you are ready to harvest your first two plants. That way you have two plants ready to harvest every other week.

Where'd you get the idea anywhere in Alaska is warmer than anywhere in Ohio??? And where I am in Ohio, secondary snow belt, we get more snow than anchorage.

We got 133" of snow last winter, and we have had warmer winters in Anchorage, Alaska, than in Anchorage, Kentucky.
