I see the difference...Obamacare allows folks into insurance even if they have a pre-existing condition. This has not yet been enacted, because it is the last part of the phased approach. IMO, this is the single most important part of Obamacare. The insurance carrier has not mentioned keeping this voluntarily.
Also the insurance company mentioned they won't deny claims if the person lied on the application. the problem here is that a simple mistake on the application will likely be labeled as a lie, and then the person will be denied coverage when they have a large claim, even after paying premiums for many years. I had a family member (small business owner) that was denied a large claim from the same carrier making the statement. They left off (by mistake) an Rx for antibiotics for cold/bronchitis sympoms several years prior. Then when they got lung cancer they were told it was a preexisting condition and that they lied on the app. The lung cancer treatment/claim was denied even after paying monthly premiums for many years.
With Obamacare, we are protected from this.
See the difference?
Try to stay on topic, champ. If you're not clear on why you weren't, go back and re-read the OP. Twice, if necessary.
You should watch the PBS Frontline show that detailed the battle for health care reform. Karen Ignani of the lobbying group American Health INsurance plans was instrumental in getting a place at the table for the insurance companies. Obama wanted a national payor system, but the insurance comapnies threatened to come out with $millions of advertising against it. Meanwhile, the Congress was taking massive campaign donations from the industry, incl Sen Max Baucus, the powerful Dem head of committee plus the Repubs. It's so sad how much of the healthcare dollar is siphoned off to pay for the salaries of CEOs, sales managers, gatekeepers, drug companies, lobbyists etc.
They could do any thing but they have been cutting services and raising rates way before most of us had ever heard of Obama.
Doesn't your grocery bill go up every year? Do you eat? My guess is that yes, you do, and probably far more often than you require medical assistance. Why, then, are you not screaming for sweeping new federal laws on food production and sales? Why are you not demanding a mandate on the purchase of flour or corn or rice?
better yet...get rid of insuranec..all insurance (private and government)
you go to the doctor...its your body...your health..your bill
Unfortunately doctors will charge you an arm and a leg because they can. And this is what they charge the uninsured. And because the uninsured can't pay we all pick up the slack.
I used to take meds for high cholesterol. Why in the world would I have to go back to the doc and pay their fee of 120 just for him to tell me my blood work was fine. They would not tell me my results over the phone. Why not......because they wouldn't get paid. If I didn't have insurance I would be screwed every few months.
Your ability to go from A to Q without taking into account BCDEFGHIJKLMNOP is astounding, eg.
Actually, you'd know a thing or two about it. It was that act that I was pointing to. But more accurately, you assumed there is only A and Z and nothing else. Not getting it? Ask.
Everything is available... for a cost. Why is this news? I'd much rather be given the option to have and pay for those added benefits or to not pay for them if I don't want them. Nobody likes to be forced to purchase things they don't want/need.

I don't know about you, but I have been doing that for 15 years now, and don't see that option available... is it because we choose to live in a society where everything specific isn't to your whim, but everything really is to help you as well?

I agree that we have precious few options available to us to shop around for the perfect health insurance plan for our own individual circumstances. That's partly because we aren't allowed to purchase insurance from other states, the ins. cos. have monopolies and dictate what coverage we will get. To be fair, a lot of this has to do with each individual state mandate for coverage. I have consistently stated on here that we should be able to pick and choose the coverage we want, and pay for that specific coverage. If I don't want maternity coverage then I shouldn't be forced to pay for it. Anyways, my point was that everything comes at a price. Things get muddied when you throw state mandates into the mix, but that's the gist of it.
