English will still be majority language, mainly thanks to globalization.

[Politically Incorrect Flag On]

A nation of people who share a common language and customs, can better cooperate in the defense of person or property from attack.

A nation of people who cannot communicate and have different customs, will not cooperate.

For the predators, the latter is preferred over the former. A nation divided into unintelligible factions is doomed to collapse.

One language = one nation united.

The place where I was born and spent my childhood gave direction to all my future struggles. In Bialystok the inhabitants were divided into four distinct elements: Russians, Poles, Germans and Jews; each of these spoke their own language and looked on all the others as enemies.

I guess the Swiss, Finns, Spanish, Brits, etc. are screwed then.

I don't get it... I'm as pasty-white as they come but I also speak Spanish and a bit of Portuguese. There is nothing sinister or scary about it.

Do you fear it because you don't understand it? Wouldn't that be *your* fault, not the guy speaking Spanish?

Why should we only speak Amerikun? The majority language was ALMOST German you know, not English... and last time I checked, I wasn't even English!

Nobody shouts down my Grandma when she speaks Danish in public, so why is that not the case when somebody speaks Spanish?

I don't want to hear anything about illegals... yes there lots of Spanish Speaking illegals, and yes they should be punished according to the severity of their crime. There are lots of illegals from all over the world in America and our government has done a lousy job of enforcing immigration laws.

...But I'm surrounded by even more AMERICAN CITIZENS who speak Spanish by choice and are harassed/hated for it.

It's time to face the truth... we've got a problem and we need to get over it.

Fear brews the same kind of hate that leads to racism, slavery, bigotry, terror, witch hunts, inquisitions and genocide. There is no reason we should hate to hear things said in Spanish simply because they are heard in Spanish.

Knowledge is the antidote to fear. If you have Españophobia, sign up for a Spanish class, go to your library and get some language tapes, watch some Spanish programming for an evening... expose yourself to it and learn.

End Rant.
People forget the "freedom of speech" rights we enjoy.

Lots of folks only like to point out rights and laws when it benefits them. When they are annoyed at others who are different, they whine and cry like little brats.

Ummmmm. It's the 21st century and we live in a GLOBAL SOCIETY. Yeah, that's why when the banks Europe fail, we suffer also.

So that quote is a bit out-dated. And stop with the propaganda.

In essence, you have no rebuttal.

A nation that is divided into factions by language will not be able to defend itself as well as one that has a single language... THAT is a fact.

Feel free to speak Macedonian to a NY cop, when trying to get assistance after a mugging. Or speak Swahili in Italy, if you wish directions to the Coliseum. When hassled by the gangs in East L.A., express your outrage in French.
It's a GLOBAL SOCIETY!

I think the Swiss might disagree.

Isn't the essence of a strong defense is that you don't actually have to fight.
