why shoudld a teacher make MORE than the average person in the town
Every time I read one of your posts, I weep at how rampant ignorance has become in our country.

You do realize that EVERY SINGLE ONE of your jobs requires an education, right? Teachers provide them. While the professions you listed are very important, teachers are what educate the children of today into the fireman, caps, engineers, and mechanics of tomorrow. There is nothing elitist about what he just said.

Also, where does your hostility towards unions come from? Throughout most of American working-class history, unions have played a huge part in supporting the workers, especially those with low wages. They helped the working classes survive the age of big monopolies during the Gilded Age and through the hard times of the Great Depression.

Oh and I noticed that you just it was wrong for a teacher to make more than the average worker, right? What you're saying is that it is wrong for someone with one profession to make more than someone with another profession? For someone who rages against socialism, you seem to be making a lot of the same points that socialists often make. Before you start throwing wild accusations against people, you should do your research.

You can't reason with a "socialist/communist/marxist/whatever stupid label they decide to use", what they want is a direct attack on that of individual liberty. There is no "compromise", no means to let them achieve what they want while you obtain what you want. There is simply you as an obstacle of objection to their desire. They require your submission of freedom to achieve their goals.

So how do you deal with such as a civilized person? You can't. This is why mankind has killed each other since the beginning of time. Either submit, or kill the oppressor. There is no other solution. You can't go in two directions at once. One MUST submit.

Oh! By the way he was Republican! I was just sure you wanted to forget that.

I think that most people who throw around labels like "socialist" and the likes have no idea what the terms really mean.

Hence the "whatever stupid label they decide to use". You can call it what you like... which is why I gave it many labels and even left it opened to whatever "term" you would like to put to it to convince yourself you are just and right. The simple fact is... if you have to "force" others to your system, then you are nothing more than a tyrant. Now certainly there are some who are willing to be ruled, but those who are unwilling will hang tyrants, or as history shows us... you will hang them.

Private school teachers on the whole, there migght some exemptions, do NOT belong to a union and do NOT have tenure.

Do your own research, then come back.

It is apparent you don't know much about the subject and just want to go on and on about pay.

I will give you a start:

"Pay While there are many pros and cons to teaching in a private school, probably the biggest negative is the pay. Private school teachers make in most cases much less than their public school counterparts. Teacher pay at these schools is based on the tuition brought in by students. Therefore, expect to earn at least $10 – 15,000 less at a minimum if you choose to teach at a private school."

Put this in your search bar an READ,"private schools pay teachers less then public schools ".
Ok. Yes Sensei. Very patronizing.

It is my job to research your position. Your post had no reference, and you want me to query the Internet to prove your position. Sure.

Thanks for the unreferenced start.

It's pretty simple, values need to shift and education should be fixed. The End.

my wife and i are teachers and as i try to read these comments about teachers and the so-called low test scores i just shake my head. why do i say so called test scores? because we are the only country who test all students. that includes the students i teach, special ed. also here in california we test students who have only been in the country for one year and english is not their primary language. the test is 100% english and there is no help. these are the students we compare against the rest of the world who only test those students who are on the university track, approximately 30% of their student population. Most countries of the world have a test that puts students either on a university track or vocational track for their education. we in the u.s. do not. america sends more students to high school and college per capita than any other country. if we only compared our top 30% with the rest of the world we would rank with the top, but we are all inclusive. so when you see that, i believe it is exxon ad stating that america ranks 14th, remember the mark twain line about statistics. america is 14th because we choose to include everyone not the chosen few.

Point taken. Somehow when I speak to many of our youth they seemed less enthusiastic about learning, and less confident in their ability to learn. Maybe it's the sample space I am exposed to...

We should always be more inclusive when presenting data, we can also seperate data in order to look at the statistics with different sample spaces. A sample space should always be noted with caution since it may not be a true picture of what is happening overall. Perception is reality, so some people may actually think their sample space is reality, when in fact it could be an outlier.

I feel that your concern is an example of professionalism. You are taking ownership of the problem and you will deliver your best, now if only we could get all teachers to deliver their best.

An excerpt....

"It's not the greatest country in the world," he fumes. "We're seventh in literacy, 27th in math, 22nd in science, 49th in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, third in median household income, No. 4 in labor force, and No. 4 in exports. ... So when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I don't know what the f*** you're talking about."

We're No. 1! We're No. 1! We're ... uh ... not? - CNN.com

We can always improve. That we concern ourselves is key.

Do you have any data that shows two normalized sample spaces, that would be a good example of what you are expressing?
