I don't tend to spend time on the trivia of political personalities who switch parties. I know Reagan was a demcrat before he switched. And I voted for him both times. BTW, he was a union guy, too.

He is interesting in that he was raised by two card carrying communist and I mean devout communist parents. He was a bright kid who only knew one way and that was communism. It was fed to him like a religion and he in-fact calls it that. Both his parents are jewish and looked at the world a little different than most do because of their perception of greed and power and what that end of the spectrum can do to members of the human race. He's a very good writer, I've read a couple of his books. Whether an American progressive is also a communist is a different matter.

I don't understand these ideas of ideological purity among the many people who affiliate with either the progs or the cons.

I once worked for the so-called "Left" and I saw what they were all about--manipulation and control of the voting public. When asked, strategists merely claimed they were doing the same thing the "Right" was doing.

I think what it all boils down to is the fact that politicians are corrupt and easily corruptible. I don't put too much stock into what they say (well, I do believe that a President Romney would be almost entirely a foreign policy president--so I believe him in that regard). Similarly the politicos' minions who espouse whatever platform based on the ideology of their party affiliation are about delusional and view the world with blinders on; oh no, reality will never get in the way of their mission.

I'd be interested to see all this dualistic and ideological thinking fall by the wayside. It doesn't matter who's in charge of the nation, it's the people who are going to get screwed! Screw the people...by the people--that's our national motto!

So did I, but some here are not capable of understanding that people can and do change their minds.
