This is where leadership comes in.

I feel that much more can be accomplished by working together and compromising than forcing something down someones throat.

These people are making millions off the current scam. Why would they want any changes?

Exactly. Clinton tried it during his term and got laughed out of the room.

If you think that no one talked to them during the debate before this law was passed, your wrong. The individual mandate the healthcare CEOS loved.

Wrong, Cliton tried it and then signed HIPAA into law any way. All the insurance companies and the doctors said it would increase premiums and it has ever since it was passed.

People think HIPAA is about patient rights....that's the part that was added in 2002. The first was passed in 8/96 and mandates guaranteed portability among other things.

Uh...President Obama did do that....at least 27 times before his healthcare initiative was even passed.

Obama Has Met At Least 27 Times With Private Health Care Industry Executives

Insurance Cos respond to the costs, they don't create them.

During the 2008 presidential campaign Mr. Obama repeatedly said that health reform should be negotiated at a “big table” that would include insurance companies and drug companies. Mr. Obama specifically said, “We want to reduce the power of drug companies and insurance companies and so forth, but the notion that they will have no say-so at all in anything is just not realistic.”

When the plan was being formulated in Congress, insurance companies were heavily involved (I'd say too involved.)

So, you are criticizing Mr. Obama for not taking the course of action that you recommend even though that was the course of action he actually took.

But I think Mr. Obama was being unrealistic, believing that the insurance and drug industries -- which are, in large part, the cause of our health care problems -- were willing to play a constructive role in health reform. The fact is that there was no way to reduce the gross wastefulness of our health system without also reducing the profits of the industries that generate the waste and were largely opposed to any significant reforms.
