They wrote several proposals (like the one to counter Clinton's proposal in the 1990) and they all included an individual mandate.

The Affordable Care Act prohibits health plans from putting a lifetime dollar limit on most benefits you receive. The law also restricts and phases out the annual dollar limits a health plan can place on most of your benefits — and does away with these limits entirely in 2014.

Be aware that plans can put an annual dollar limit and a lifetime dollar limit on spending for health care services that are not considered essential.
"Essential" is defined as (from: http://www.healthcare.gov/glossary/e/essential.html):

Essential health benefits must include items and services within at least the following 10 categories: ambulatory patient services; emergency services; hospitalization; maternity and newborn care; mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment; prescription drugs; rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices; laboratory services; preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management; and pediatric services, including oral and vision care.

If Republicans want to be taken seriously on this, they could propose an actual solution. Then maybe people like me could supper a repeal of the law in favor of the better solution. So far, all we hear is Republicans hyperventilating about repeal without much specificity as to what comes after.
They have proposed solutions that would actually lower the cost of health care which is real reform. Maybe you missed that? Please be informed about these things before you post.

Yep, this is just another phony crisis and GOP tantrum. They just seem to keep getting worse. Sigh.

They dont care about alternatives they only care about defeating Obama,,its a hate thing and as such its all foaming at the mouth emotional stupidity. Alternatives?for them its just about thinking once Obama is gone we'll be in the promised land,
Funny how 8 yrs under their messiah Bush things didnt turn out so well..

PS. The Upcoming vote in November may come down solely as a referendum on Obama care,if so Repubs gonna lose big time as most Americans arent stupid enough to throw the baby out with the bathwater..

You believe AHA is going to fix all that?
That's so cute!

Apparently, universal English lessons should be the priority.

Anyway, where was your laser-like focus on jobs when your "team" (I know that's how you see it, so that's the context I'll use) held a supermajority in both houses of congress, and also the White House? You remember - it's when they were able to pass any legislation they wanted, without a single bipartisan vote, and they chose to spend that capital on Obamacare, while the rest of the nation was concerned about their next paycheck.

Some people are so f*king hypocritical, it's disgusting. I often wonder how those people can sleep at night.
