Why don't you say the same thing about a politician who touts his Irish or Catholic or Jewish or Spanish name? If I remember correctly the name "Hussien" means 'blessed Son" which obviously wasn't the case with Saddam!
If you actually read the quote, you quickly realize it that he said it to point out how those who supported him helped overcome negative perception against him as a candidate due to his non-WASP background...as his middle name clearly indicates.
And there's nothing wrong with pointing this out, because that is his middle name, and that is the perception he had to overcome.
The irony is that you - and this article - just demonstrated that he was right. Huge perception issues remain in the eyes of certain conservatives because the president isn't a WASPy guy with a very American-sounding name. It really paints you in a bad light, not him.
Don't I remember a couple of years ago when all kinds of progs were consistently "wondering" why posters from the other side kept enunciating the HUSSEIN name when they posted. I guess now that there are enough Muslim "voters" around to vote for him it has all of a sudden become an important item. I may start calling him Hussein again, for fun.

I've always thought it idiotic to blame Obama for the middle name his parents gave him that just happens to correspond with Sadam Hussein's last name, something they could not possibly have known at his christening. This meme is so incredibly tired--Jeffrey Dahmer, Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy are all infamous white American serial killers--should we eliminate from qualification for public office anyone with the first or middle names of Jeffrey, Wayne, or Ted? You're actually taking that as fact even with the FULL context of what he said, which was that it can initially be hard to draw support from certain people with a middle name like Hussein. Hussein is the thing that can turn off people. It's the entire point of what he said. Of course he emphasized it.

Is Barack a common name in the western world or is Obama a western name? Hell, all three should work for Muslims especially those who he claimed worked for him in 2008. I think that a number of you would be more able to argue this one if you had read the link and watched the video they had in it.
