You have to understand, Austin is not like San Francisco. but it is more like a Willie Nelson Redneck type atmosphere, almost more Libertarian if you have to classify it.

Live and let live is the motto in Austin, among the people of the city.(Except for the Police State)

They do like to spend on frivolous things and tax us out the ass, while neglecting infrastructure(roads).

No, because the State sets the standard. Austin is not as progressive as people seem to think. It's "sold" that way, but only the areas around the University, Capitol and So Congress are progressive/libertarian. Once you leave the Austin island, you're still in Texas and subject to all of the wackiness/extreme conservatism that entails.

God knows living with fellow American's must be quite a strain on the nerves.
I might not experience the "joys" of diversity in the mountains of Idaho, but I bet I could walk my dog after dark without worrying about "bloods", "crips", or "the Latin kings" blowing me away.

But "we don't care what you do" is waning. Look at the green mandates. When people started razing the older Austin homes and putting up huge houses that took up the entire lot people started to care.
They don't care who you are but they do care what you do.

FYI, I'm not paying the max rate..my total tax rate is 1.80%
My property in the Austin area was over valued and taxed at the max rate.
Because of all the Californians who've moved there, that's why.
Wherever you get large numbers of Californians they always try to turn wherever they've moved to into California.
