I haven't seen any news stories on AIDS recently; it seems Global Warming is the world's top concern.

Is AIDS still a problem in the world?

This is just for the US data to 2008 from the CDC:

HIV Prevalence Estimate
Prevalence is the number of people living with HIV infection at the end of a given year.
At the end of 2008, an estimated 1,178,350 persons aged 13 and older were living with HIV infection in the United States. Of those, 20% had undiagnosed HIV infections.1
1 CDC. HIV Surveillance --- United States, 1981--2008. MMWR 2011 60(21); 689-693.

HIV Incidence Estimate
Incidence is the number of new HIV infections that occur during a given year.
Incidence is the number of new HIV infections that occur during a given year. CDC estimates that approximately 50,000 people are newly infected with HIV each year in the United States. In 2009 (the most recent year that data are available), there were an estimated 48,100 new HIV infections.[1] Most (61%) of these new infections occurred in gay and bisexual men. Black/African American men and women were also strongly affected and were estimated to have an HIV incidence rate than was 7 times as high as the incidence rate among whites. Visit the HIV incidence page for more details

HIV is a massive problem. Consider that Africa has over 24M infected; nearly 2M new cases, 1.2M deaths in 2010 alone. There may be as many as 60M infected worldwide. This is a significant percentage of the gross population.

Yeah. It's still a huge problem.

However, it's lost it's cache and quite frankly a lot of sympathy especially since most of it's big time public backers were from the entertainment industry and infected people at those ranks have treatments and health insurance etc.

Additionally, most of the new cases are VERY preventable and in this day and age people are more like "you did it to yourself". (not in all cases of course, just talking about the difference in attitude.)

I mean, take the movie Philadelphia. Fast forward it 30 years and have Tom Hanks character get it from an unprotected quick hookup one-night-stand. Sorry, it just doesn't resonate with the public anymore than a habitual drug user suffering debilitation after huffing paint thinner for hours.

Yes, the calendar may say July and its normal to be warm but look around you.

Is it really normal to have uncontrolled countless wildfires?

Floods, Hurricanes, tornado's all natural forces of nature but in such drastic numbers?

Searing Heat Waves with advanced warning from the National Weather Service?

Not really sure what some people are waiting for but its obvious the Earth is in climate change.

Is it normal? Probably so as the Earth Temp has waxed and waned since the beginning of its creation.

Is the change due to man made fossil fuels? Or just a natural change that would have taken place anyway or perhaps a combination of both.

This change seems to be evolving if your not a believer you may want to do some additional research.
USGS has some good insight.

Maybe we need to stop politicizing this thing and just accept the fact its upon us.
