RALEIGH, N.C. – A veteran state lawmaker in North Carolina says she pushed the wrong button late Monday night in a marathon legislative session and accidentally opened up the state to fracking.
Rep. Becky Carney, a five-term Democrat from Charlotte, burst into tears after mistakenly voting with Republicans to override Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue’s veto of the contentious legislation. The measure lifts the ban on hydraulic fracturing as a means for mining for natural gas, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Carney and other Democrats asked for a do-over, as is common when a member pushes the wrong button.

But in this instance, Republicans said no. A change in Carney’s vote would have changed the outcome, which is against the House rules. But Ms. Carney asked for the rules to be suspended so she could change her vote, but got nowhere.

More evidence that Democrats are too stupid to be allowed to hold elected office or enter a voting booth.

More evidence that people like trace are to pig headed to see past political party and realize HUMAN'S make mistakes...not saying it was a bad thing not saying its a good thing I don't live in NC so this doesn't affect me but people really do need to act a bit more mature.According to your brilliant logic ALL democrats are idiots because of what 1 democrat did? Do we really need to revisit some stupid things republicans have done? I mean Bush really took the cake...I am still waiting on the voice from god to come tell me why he told Bush to go to war....

Uh, she pushed the wrong button and did everything she could to try and remedy it, in fact the GOP leader admitted such happens all the time. Do you propose we ban voting for everyone who has made 1 typo in their life?

Deflection fail.

Have you ever been to the statehouse in North Carolina? There are 2 buttons you press it and there are no take backs. Thus if you aren't really paying attention it is easy to mess up. It happens all the time, but this time the GOP invoked a cloture motion to prevent a motion for a re-vote which is the common, and fair solution to this kind of situation, which is not uncommon. They did this because they knew otherwise they would not have the votes.

So please answer my question do you think anyone who has ever made a typo should be banned from voting?
How about everyone who has ever accidentally pressed the wrong button for an elevator floor?
How about someone who has accidentally selected the wrong menu option on a touch screen?

Should all of these people and their respective political parties be banned from voting?

If the issue mattered to her, she would have exercised due care and ensured her vote was correct. She is just another statist liberal trying to have it both ways. She is an imbecile.

What a dunce. If the bill was so important to her she should have pushed the right button.

No, she pressed the wrong button and the GOP used a parliamentary tactics to get around allowing people to vote their conscience. As I said even the GOP leader said this is quite common.

Also it is absurd to suggest that people are imbeciles if they make reflexive mistakes on things they care about. People misbubble on the LSAT all the time. It is not that these people are imbeciles (they are often the cream of their colleges), or don't care about the single most important factor in terms of getting into law school. It is that they made a simple procedural error in trying to record something they actually know.

Only a RWNJ hack could suggest that Democrats are stupid for making a mistake everyone makes from time to time.
