These kids are leaving home for months at a time, many may not even come home. Take care of those that take care of us. Please acknowledge the men and women who serve America. If you can't afford to treat them to a lunch, a simple smile or thank you will make them feel good.

Funny, I served for 9 years, and I never once expected someone to pay for anything I was buying. Whether it was a coffee, beer or some lunch at an airport. If someone did, I told them thank you and bought theirs. Just because someone offers to serve X number of years, does not mean that they get a free ride.

Yes what they do is dangerous. Yes they do a job that less than 3% of the population will do, and to add to it, they get spit on by an ungrateful nation who doesn't give a damn when they return home.

So by your statement, you should start buying a firefighter lunch or a police station donuts, caue they do the same thing, right?

That's rich. I paid taxes just like you did - so in a manner of speaking, I paid myself!

And you're seriously asking what sacrifices I made while I was in the military? Are you dense or just a dimwit? Or both, possibly?

That's something only a freeloading, bigoted, ignorant liberal would say. So congrats, I guess.

The serviceman deserves ultimate respect and support. The POS's in government should be forced to trade places with them for the rest of their lives.

P.S. Cops and firemen here in the U.S. get paid millionaire wages/compensation for writing traffic tickets and hanging out 2 days a week at a Taj Majal Firehouse. Military people get paid LESS THAN WELFARE, get nickel-and-dimed by a sick Military Industrial Complex, and live a life beyond hell.

Signed, 5 years with the U.S. Military using us as disposable slaves.
Last I heard, service in the military was voluntary. Not nice to bite the hand that feeds you.

I get it that enlisting is a better career path for many than working a minimum wage job. But it was a choice made by your husband. I agree that we need to continue to cycle down our military presence. But I don't agree with you about law enforcement and fire fighters. Not everywhere, but where I live, they are incredible.

To be fair, Bush put us there first. Obama has the follow-up yet hasn't done as much as he could to get us out.

Better late than never, I say.

Openly denouncing one's service and the service of others goes a long way to negating whatever benefit their service was to the country (KERRY).

Hating on America for a living has the same effect (WRIGHT).

I don't know about meals, but when I got back from Vietnam in 1968, I never had to pay for a drink until my hair grew out.

(This will go unappreciated by most but it made me smile.)

Same with a panhandler. Why give a bum food or money? Im sure those whining why they should do something for a service member probably give though to the homeless. What do they do for you?

b) were former servicemen or servicewomen themselves;
c) were not US citizens or legal residents and, therefore, his service really wasn't for them so they have no obligation or reason to thank him;
d) were buying for a large family and every dollar counts - even the one they could have spent on the soldier;
e) were simply busy in their own thoughts...
Some further assumptions:

f) That the servicemember was reimbursed for per diem on the travel claims (so providing money that could have been used to buy a pornographic magazine)
g) The servicemember could have been violating orders not to travel in uniform (so encouraging bad behavior)
h) That the servicemember could have been a Democrat (so that certain C-D members could trivialize his patriotism in the coming years, compared to what it would be for a Republican)
i) Or could have been gay (for the same reason as 'h')

In fact I'm willing to bet that most of this charity is done based on being the same race and an assumption of the same political/sexual orientation beliefs...
