So, I never post in this forum. Why get my blood pressure up! But I just had to share this story with the wider world:

One of my volunteers is just the nicest ladies in the world. She's in her 70s, lives alone, and is active in her Baptist Church and the local Republican Women's group. She openly says that she never reads, although she does enjoy doing genealogy.

The other day we were just visitin', and this was the conversation. Bear in mind that we weren't even talking politics to start out with!

"Well, I just learned about how Obama's father was a Muslim, and just the most horrible man!" she said. "Well, none of us is responsible for our fathers' behavior." I answer. "It means that Obama is a Muslim, because his father is!" she went on. "No, President Obama has said that he's a Christian," I reply. "And they tell me he can't be President because he wasn't even born in America," says she. "Obama was born in Hawaii" I say. "No, our Preacher said that he was born there when Hawaii was still a territory, so he can't be President," she said firmly. "Hawaii became a state in 1959 and Barack Obama was born in 1961!" I ground out. "But they said . . . well, I don't know, but I do know he's a Muslim and he's not even legally the President" she replied. "Oh (X), please just look up in an encyclopedia about Hawaii and when it became a state!" I said. "I don't have a set." she answered. I changed the conversation.

Sigh.

That's what happens when people don't read and think for themselves, but just listen to other ignorant people - and Baptist preachers.

I don't care if you're against the President because you don't like his economic policies or how he represents us Internationally or you don't like his military decisions or for anything else that actually has something to do with the reality of governing. But please just don't be ignorant!

Indeed, that is sadly very typical of Republican voters. Just look at the lies and misinformation routinely spewed in these forums and you'll know that much is true. Worse they love to attack people who are educated or who bother to read and stay informed; they call them "elitists" and pretend that factually incorrect things like the example you used above are some how equally valid to fact based discourse.

Default Here's proof...

Some people live their entire lives w/o a moment of lucidity.

Exclusive? No, it is not exclusive to one side but it sure is a heck of a lot more common on one particular side. Which is why one side so often gets their information from spurious chain emails of dubious credibility.
