It doesn't really matter who does what in bed when it comes to anything that matters. Whoever is up for the task of raising kids should raise them, whoever wants to share their life with someone should get to, including the legal rights that we have chosen to bestow. This stuff isn't written on the universe...we made up all the rules to this point and we can adjust them as we see fit to make life work for everyone. It's not a contest people.
That must be the gay perspective... marriage does not guarantee that the offspring is yours, unless you never heard of infidelity, but it does provide some guarantees for the women that the man will provide for her and her offspring. Even secular divorce has provisions like alimony that ensure support for the women even after the divorce.
It's not that that women was bound to a man through marriage but rather man committed to lifetime support of the women and her offspring.
In your "traditional marriage" scenario it sure does(BOLDED AREAS), women are there to take care of the husband and make babies, that is all, she is transferred from her father to her husband, in your traditional marriage scenario females have NO rights of ownership, and divorce is NEVER allowed.

So true. We created the concept of morality and as we continue our legacy and understand more, we change those morals. We developed laws and as we understand things more we change them as well. Not much is free from change through understanding. Even religions have changed through time to adapt to modern understanding.
I realize that nobody want to share negative aspects of their chosen lifstyles or lifestyle the support but in truth all need to look at the facts and stop deleting the facts the don't like or that are embarrassing to their cause. What has same sex marriege done to Massachusetts? I believe there is a link around here for that subject and it will be ignored or demonized for being pro-moral.
maintenance payments in gay marriages - how would it work?
now here is something to ponder over.
In the case of two men getting married, and then divorced - what happens with maintenance payments?
Would the chief earner have to make a weekly payment to the other man, in order to support them?
A man living for free in this way would be lame IMO.
this would go against the idea of being a man and supporting yourself, not to mention causing a dent in the economy and functioning of society.
another reason to ban this silly idea of s.s marriage.
Another fail, with both anti-female AND anti-male gender biases to boot. Impressive.
"Maintenance payments," or alimony as it's known here, is not a male vs female thing... how do you think it works when the woman is the top earner, or comes into a marriage with her own money? My step-mother entered the marriage with TONS of money (from inheritance and ex-husband), and my father has a good deal himself - so they signed a pre-nuptial designating who gets what if they divorce, and I doubt either would request alimony. Then there's my sister who makes nearly twice her husband's salary, with no pre-nup, so he could probably request payments from her. Pretty simple, and a gay couple could just as easily do this. Otherwise things will be determined in divorce court, and most likely the higher earner will be making those payments. Next question?
P.S. Some states (like here in California) have "no-fault" divorces, where the assets are split 50/50 no matter what... alimony and child support are different issues, but my comments above already covered that. Furthermore, not everyone quits working just because they're getting alimony. Matter of fact, many folks start working after divorce out of boredom!
as usual, you are dwelling on some of the negative aspects to one of the facets of the historical hetero (ie:normal) situation, and somehow extrapolating that to make a case for allowing s.s. marriage - it's a clear non sequitir though, as usual.
Gee... kind of like what you & your cohorts are doing with homosexuals? How you don't see the irony and hypocrisy in your "arguments" is laughably unbelievable.
