It's astounding, when you think about it: you can't buy knives, forks, or spoons made in America anymore. The last American manufacturer of silverware, Sherrill Manufacturing, closed in June 2010.

Does anyone care?

The list of things we don't make anymore includes:

Silverware
Incandescent light bulbs
Dress shirts
Televisions
Rebar
Canned sardines

Free trade isn't free.

Hard to compete with slave labor. And if that doesn't kill the economy you have places like California where they banned even owning incandescent light bulbs anymore.
Hey I know, let's build a train to nowhere to give government unions jobs.

Yep, it's a double whammy. A strangled economy at home and cheap labor abroad. Combined with a fanatical devotion to "free trade" shared by both parties, it's a recipe for economic suicide.

Please don't get me started on my home state's train to nowhere ....

Yesterday I bought two coffee mugs in an antique store. They were made in America, by Frankoma Pottery. Now I can start my day by using something made in the good ole USA. Cheers.

You might include money in the list.

Many citizens no longer make money but the government does.

Thanks, Bulldog. Looks like Sherrill resumed flatware production last August after an 11 month shut down. Good news. Now if I could just find their nearest retailer .... we need some flatware!
