Once upon a time people admired people who did great things. These people were men and women of great character and talent that inspired people and took responsibility with their role. I have been personally inspired by Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt and feel that they are largely responsible for helping to set the stage for turning our country into a great nation during the last century.

There are many other men and women of great character that have left indelible imprints on the history of our country (Feel free to share your personal picks).

However, the past few decades have centered largely on wealth worshiping over character as aspirational goals of many of our citizens. Is it possible to replace wealth worshiping with character in America?

I'm greatly inspired by people who started with nothing and changed the whole world...Henry Ford, Alex Grahm Bell, Edison etc.....Plus they made a bundle to boot!

Let me suggest the gentleman referenced in the link below:

Eric Hoffer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If life is a journey, Eric Hoffer surely made the most of it. And he recongized that the real threats to our nation, and our civilization, lie within ourselves -- as Mark Twain wrote: "Every man, like the moon, has a dark side that he never shows to anyone else."

Thank you, Dr. Hoffer, for a lesson we can't aford to forget.

Where are you going to find these great poeople? Not in politics. Not in sports, definitely. Not in any entertainment field. LOL, no especially not there. Maybe in some science fields but the real movers and shakers don't play the politics game to really get recognition. The Nobel Prize has become a joke, anyway.
You want character, start with your family. They do more for and influence you more than anybody.
Tully the airline pilot and some of our people who risked their lives fighting evil forces overseas would be a place to start, too. I've said our next great President won't come until we get one who wore a uniform and fought in one.

Rob bell. For those that have never heard of him, he represents a dramatic shift in modern day Christianity for the better.

Character building is the man who goes off to work and provides for his family. They are every day folks and strive for their children in providing the necessities but more importantly they teach a work ethic. The women who work to provide for their family and some have to struggle in a one parent home . They have learned to stretch a dollar, do without any pampering to make it all work. The everyday people who are committed to their families and make sacrifices for the good.

Men and women give up pleasures to make sure the wolf is kept from the door. They save for a rainy day. Shop for practical things and once in a while give the family something extra .

They are the heroes who face challenges everyday. They know how to keep their courage in times of trouble and always have a spirit of endurance. They are happy for the everyday blessings of a good meal, a sunny day, the beauty of a garden and the cool breezes on a hot day.

They keep the capacity of the greatness of creation and the wonderment of a mother robin caring for her newly hatched brood , the soothing coo of a mourning dove and the peace of a Sunday afternoon and the sound of a soft welcoming rain.

I don't know anybody who worships wealth or the wealthy. You need a new group of friends.

Take a look at the Republican Party. You'll see it.

I'm inspired by people like Kenneth B. Cowart.

No, you've never heard of him and he never did anything "great" or notable in his short life. He was just another guy...until he saw a man and two kids struggling in the deep and rapid waters of Red River, near Colbert, OK last month. Without hesitation, he plunged in, leading the man and one child to safety, then went back for the other child. He just managed to shove the young boy to safety before being pulled under by the current.

He drowned.

Y'all can worship at the altar of Mammon or laud those who build and create, but I think I'll stick to the kind of true, heroic greatness best exemplified by John 15:13--"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

If someone made a similar commment about women, racial minorities or sexual -- dissidents(?), he/she would be immediately demonized by every Lefty troll at this site,

But those who don't buy into the Democrats' myth of (confiscating somebody else's) wealth without responsibility remain fair game.
