Anyone care to look further and explain WHY they voted to block consideration? Just saying the GOP voted to block the bill without detailing why is **** poor journalism, and indicative of liberal gerrymandering in order to make Republicans look bad. At least two liberals on this forum fell for it. How many more will pile on?
For the same reason that they will vote to block everything that comes from the Democrats: any sensible progress that might benefit the American people in any way might also benefit the current Obama administration, and they would rather have nothing happen ever than to risk that occurring.
A secondary reason is that the GOP really has no interest in actually returning those jobs to America. Most of the Democrats don't really either, by the way. They serve the interests of wealthy businesses and corporations, not middle class Americans. And those in charge of those businesses care about maximizing their profits, which they can do by paying Indians as little as possible for their labor.

Also, you could read the actual language of the bill, or at least the synopsis. It's actually pretty good and rewards businesses that repatriate jobs while removing some of the tax rewards for moving operations overseas. What's the objection here?

Really..so 20% deduction on the expense of closing down a factory/plant in China and moving it here and hiring Americans is "incentive" for the likes of GE, GM, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Merck, Monsanto, etc ?

Well, if multi nationals will not bother with it, the part of the bill that takes away their tax credit for screwing Americans is in order.

I have a friend of mine who has his own business, and his tax attorney took a look at it and his comment was, it's ridiculous and useless.
After reading for myself, I have to agree, it's so convoluted that it appears to accomplish nothing.

I agree with taking away the 2 tax breaks that I found go back to at least 2004.
Kerry said he wanted to take it away in 2004 and Congress tried in 2006.
Moving your money between subsidiaries to escape US taxes should not be allowed.
Deferring stating your income until a future date in time to escape US taxes should also not be allowed.
This is not new and for at least 8 years, if not longer, Congress has done NOTHING about it.
That is why I think nothing will come of this and this is just talk coming from DC to rile up emotions.
You don't need any "jobs bill" to make these changes. They should just DO IT.
Now Reid "blocked" a proposal to bring up a vote on extending the Obama tax cuts last week because he said they were focusing on a jobs bill (obviously not this one). There was no uproar over that and that one is more immediate IMHO.

Have you actually read the bill, or does the title alone convey what you believe it to be?
Schumer, Durbin and public unions are pushing this bill; suspicion rising.
I can only imagine the riders, backdoor pay outs, and palm greasing they've shoved into it.
