I hope, and think, this proposal will go down in flames. As I have noted elsewhere on this board, the Constitution has been three requirements for a person to be president: at least 35 years of age, a natural born citizen, and having resided in the US for 14 years. I think it would require a Constitutional amendment to force disclosure of financial records, etc.

That being said: if the Democratic or Republican party wishes to make financial disclosure a requirement to be a candidate for either party, have at it. A person is not obligated to run as a Democrat, Republican, Whig, Federalist, etc.

Yeah, just like a balanced budget and term limits.

NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN.

For some context on financial disclosure requirements here is what the State of Maryland requires for elective office and some appointive offices such as Planning and Zoning Boards:
1) list of all real estate holdings in the State with amount paid for the property and mortgage holder
2) list of all current employment with salary listed
3) list of spouse's employment with salary
4) list of dependent children's employment with salary
5) list of any stock holdings or partnerships doing business with the body for which election/appointment is being sought
6) list of any gifts/meals/other items of value received from anyone doing business with the governmental body
7) list of any gifts/meals/other items of value received from anybody who might in the future do business with the governmental body
8) any other item candidate feels is important
9) list of any stock holdings or partnerships in any company which might in the future do business with the governing body
10) listing of any debt owed to any company which does, or may do business in the future, with the governmental body

But what about all the Congressional leaders that hide theirs too.

Perhaps Obama should even have to testify on his being mentored by an effing Communist.

You really want to go down this road?

A person with half a brain wouldve been better than Reid. Reid is a complete and utter moron.
That doesn't make any sense, college records don't contain any relevant info for someone running in an election. If someone looked up my records, theyd just find basic info, test scores, grades, activities and financial aid; it's not as if colleges keep track of you getting drunk or smoking pot or anything about your personal life.

Romney refusing to show his tax records show he's actively hiding something. How can we know what financial conflicts of interest he will have as president? What legal but immoral activity is he up to? This is taking off as an issue in a big way and it's snowballing with even the right starting to get scared and turn against him like the governor of Alabama and George Will.

I have yet,to figure what the big deal is with his tax returns even...if a man is running for president .I could care less how much money he made ,or he didn't.For me,this is a non-issue.I am more concerned about current political and financial status of America .

Let's face it. You just want to know what a tax return looks like when someone makes a lot of money. They are long and boring. Redundent too. I don't think you would understand much of it because they can be quite complicated.

I say lets just elect him and then we can find out. Isn't that the way things work now?

It does if somebody lied about them just like you want to see Romney's tax returns for the same reason right? lol
