Obviously, not well-enough.

No. It's the one on the left with the semi/full auto selector switch. Even that one can be legal with the right Treasury Dept. paper work.

Do you know any people who are mentally ill? I worked for several years in a psychiatric hospital and I can assure you they NEVER think there's anything wrong with them: all their problems are caused by other people. Sometimes, if you don't know them well, you don't suspect they are suffering from a severe mental illness, they can appear 'normal'. Paranoia is a common symptom of severe mental illness.

"Sane responsible people.. armed and carrying weapons".. hmm, who is to judge who is sane? The INsane will judge they need to be armed to protect themselves from all those threats their paranoia generates.

The only way to keep mentally ill people from acquiring weapons is to make weapons much, much harder to acquire. Otherwise, Aurora, the shooting of Gabrielle Gifford, Columbine.. they will happen again and again. Common sense must prevail, not mayhem.
Yeah, didn't CO once used to have a ban on assault rifles like the AR-15 that Holmes used?

Rifle in Shooting Once Was Federally Restricted

"A federal ban on assault weapons went into effect in 1994, under President Bill Clinton, including a restriction on sales of the AR-15. But in 2004, the ban expired and it was not re-enacted...."

The one on the right is the gun sold during the Ban, but not because of the magazine, it does not matter how many rounds the mag held it was if the mag could be removed or not. Its the muzzle, the one on the left has a flash hider and the one of the right is not a FH but a muzzle break which is not on the list, the other thing is if you look just where the barrel meets the forarm of the rifle there is a tiny bit of metal hanging down on the left one, this is a bayonet lug that locks a bayonet to the gun. Its been cut off the one on the right. This was how silly the Crime bill was.

There were many things that were silly and one was when Senator Patric Moynahan from NY went on NBC and talked about Winchester Black Talons as bullets that were designed to be Cop Killers. Then NBC showed a animation of a body and bullets bouncing from one organ to another. This showed a complete lack of knowledge of how a bullet travels through the body and what it does. Winchester pulled voluntarily Black Talons off the market and the price went from about 13 dollars for 20 to 95 dollars. I sold every box I had for that price because they are no different than the current production called SXT Winchester which stands for Super Expanding Talons They also removed the black lubaloy that was a hyped up lube for the barrel. Now about the cop killer, cop killer bullets are bullets designed to penetrate Kevlar vests. Almost any rifle round will penetrate a Kevlar vest unless it has the thick ceramic or metal trauma plates and then its not guarantee that it will stop a 308. If you have on the most extreme body armor and you are hit with a Browning 50 forget it. That will go through about 18 inches of concrete.

The hype is used to try to excite those who do not understand the principals of how things work and what they can and can not do. Guns are not death rays. When you see some hood rat pointing a gun with it tilted to the right or left 90 degrees, that is the sign of a person who would do better to wipe their rear end with it than try to hit anything with it. It may look good in the movies but most of the directors don't know which end is the dangerous end of a gun.

To make a ban work or possbily work you would have to ban all semi auto rifles that have detachable box mags, and limit fixed mags to hold what is used for hunting, most states limit you to no more than a mag that holds 4 rounds or less. It would be very hard to make an affective rapid fireing gun if you had to load 4 rounds at a time through the top of the gun similar to how an SKS is loaded.

The thing is though anyone with a knowledge of metal working can modify almost any gun. The shooting done by the DC sniper was done with a AR but could have been done to much better efictict with a high power hunting rifle. So even a complete semi auto ban on all currently owned and future Semis would leave people with options to do harm in a different way.
My beliefe is that people could have used a gas bomb and locked doors and burnt people to death and maybe even caused much more harm. Its sick to think about but if people want to do damage to others its very hard to stop them.

Posted is the photo of the post ban gun or gun produced under the ban for sale to the public with arrows pointing to the parts changed to make it OK for sale. This did not affect anything about the gun and how it fired.

Where I live gun ownership is probably in the 90% range, has to be one the safest places you could live.

Manufacturing and selling of new ones, cost me about $50 for 15 round clips for my Sig Sauer that should have been $20 during the ban. The bans just drive the cost up since there is already so much product on the market.

Go buy one and then come back in 6 months when you finally get your tax stamp and tell us how obviously uncontrolled Class 3 items are.

How are all of those gun control laws working out for ya in the Windy City?

You have $20K+ laying around for gun? Full auto while legal in some states are very limited quantity, a lot harder to purchase and ridiculously expensive.
