Protection of child abusers, as well as covering up, is no longer tolerated. Why is this man still around?

Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI, aka Cardinal Ratzinger, played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests.

In 2001, while he was a cardinal, he issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety.

I'd like to see it happen, but if you think PSU fans treat Paterno like a god, I shudder to think how Catholics treat the Pope.

Promoting Law and Egan showed how little regard the RCC had for a single victim. What next, spit on victims graves who committed suicide?

Law and Egan, IMO, should have been ex-communicated.

Usually they will try to blame the victim.

Regarding the Pope's letter while he was a Cardinal and in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. That letter threatened priests with excommunication should they report a priest to the police for suspected abuse of a child: it is a clear case of obstruction of justice. When a crime is committed in this country, it is to be reported to the police. Organizations are not to investigate crimes INSTEAD of the police.

"Father John Beal, professor of canon law at the Catholic University of America, gave an oral deposition under oath on 8 April last year in which he admitted to Shea that the letter extended the church's jurisdiction and control over sexual assault crimes.

The Ratzinger letter was co-signed by Archbishop Tarcisio Bertone who gave an interview two years ago in which he hinted at the church's opposition to allowing outside agencies to investigate abuse claims.

'In my opinion, the demand that a bishop be obligated to contact the police in order to denounce a priest who has admitted the offence of paedophilia is unfounded,' Bertone said."

One thing is certain. Sexual abuse of children is rampant within the Catholic Church.

Quote:
For more than 25 years, Ratzinger was personally in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the part of the Vatican responsible for enforcing Catholic canonical law across the world, including on sexual abuse. He is a notorious micro-manager who, it is said, insisted every salient document crossed his desk.
