John Kyle from Arizona (surprised).

President Barack Obama should stop talking about the middle class because it turns people against rich Americans, who should be embraced as the Michael Jordans of the U.S. economy, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) said Monday.

Declaring that the use of the phrase "middle class" is "misguided and wrong and even dangerous," Kyl argued in a Senate floor speech that Obama is "spreading economic resentment [that] weakens American values" and ignoring "the uniquely meritocratic basis of our society."

If Kyle and many Republicans had it their way we would be focusing on how to make their lives of the wealthy better. Screw the middle class. In fact, they advocate not even using the phrase middle class OMG.

Except that obama clearly does NOT care about the middle class; he's exploiting it for political gain.

"We have a president who talks incessantly about class, particularly the middle class,” Kyl said. "I just think the whole discussion of class is wrong. It's not what we do here in America," said Kyl, the Senate minority whip. He added, "I don't think there's anything called 'middle class values' that are different from the values of other people in this country. Tell me what's different about the values of someone who the president identifies as middle class?"

No. We do not like him because of his socialist agenda.

Being middle class should be something you are born into or work to get to; not something the government should hand you when you or your parents and ancestors have done nothing to gain it.

Obama gives lip service to the middle class.
The Obama tax cuts and Obama's payroll tax cut only hurt the middle class in the long run because that's less revenue to the government which is spending more.

Lack of revenue results in budget cuts at all levels and who is affected most by these cuts..middle class.
Cuts in education, services (closing libraries) hurt the middle class more because they make use of these types of services.
Government has to cut these services in order to fund services for a growing lower class that depend on social programs.

We have a growing lower class and a shrinking middle class.
Taxing the rich is but a temporary bandaid that doesn't even begin to address the real problem.

We are not a class society!!! There is no such thing as a middle class in the US.

We have people who earn less then others, but they can go from minimum wage to a six figure salary in a decade or so, and some even make the leap to a seven figure income. US citizens are not locked into a certain income at birth, the sky is the limit, if they want to earn more, nothing is stopping them but their own drive, initiative and natural abilities.

HappyTexan. I like you, but this happens to be your funniest post. The Obama payroll tax cut helps the middle class because it puts more money into the hands of the middle class. As far as taking money away from govt. services, Obama is not proposing that...that is the Republicans. The Republicans are proposing less govt. services that directly impact the middle class. Not Obama. Obama's answer to increasing revenue is increase the amount the wealthy pay...These are the facts now spin them again.

The middle Class is Obama's base even though many do not know it. The mental gymnastics that one must do to make Obama an enemy of the middle class and the Republicans champions of the middle class is fun to watch, but has no substance.

I think the point that the esteemed senator was trying to make was that the term "middle class" in very ambiguous. Many people who are not middle class identify themselves as such for whatever reason, perhaps it gives them a warm fuzzy feeling to be "one of the huddled masses" or something.

What the esteemed senator was pointing out that Obama is being divisive and continuing to divide and separate the people of this country, pitting once against another for the purposes of his own sick, politcal agenda. Apparently, this is the only thing that he is good at.

Sigh so much hyperoble here.

1) OP overstates what Kyl actually said. Kyl probably has a point about "middle class values".
2) Reading more of what he actually said I find a single (large) fault. He (as typical of the GOP) overstates the contributions of the rich. As in all classes some are heroes (True venture capitalists and business starters) and others. (anything from a trust fund baby to CEO's who themselves range from awful (Lampert) to awesome (Mulally).
Using Kyl's analogy against him. He seems to think ALL rich are heroes. This is like saying all NBA players are men therefore all men are NBA players.
3) Sigh another hideous mis-use of the word socialist.
