It's so much easier to ignore it and pretend it will go away. You can't avoid reality, you can only avoid looking at it.

Default It's like they're proud of their ignorance...

Back to what you had said earlier about conservative rhetoric misrepresenting you: I offer you direct evidence below of the mentality that has corrupted conservative principles from within.

Examine the posts and show me where any one of these individuals actually engaged the topic in earnest without turning discourse into a peeing contest. Who among them opened their eyes and minds to the plight of Appalachia- historic and ongoing present tense. Ask yourself what it is these people are defending, and what is it they're all too willing to ignore or exploit for the purpose of scoring political points via mis attributed blame. They're slaves to appearances and sweep this entire state under a rug unless there's something in it for them (cheap coal). They outright ignored every single bit of evidence I've presented and reverted back to a cartoon narrative they've been sold for centuries.

What is it that these individuals contribute to in the categories of insight and solutions for Appalachia? Zero at best. The rest= Shoot the messenger negativity. Personal attacks. Defense of vanity at the expense of truth. One of the poorest states in America is being blamed for what is their own local misery in Texas, NC, Oregon whatnot, and their notion of solution is to neglect by avoidance/denial and abuse even more. These people imply or claim to be Christian but they embody anti christian in their words and unwillingness to accept responsibility for their deeds as a working definition of their 'rights'. Is this the same mentality of adults who ran over your bicycle? People who are all too happy to sell children and call it entrepreneurship. Diminish the worth of all others around them as a means of feeling taller at the expense of all worthy of defense is a theme that destroys their own communities. All scapegoated on liberals, illegals, my half of the species, gays, commies, pinkos, socialists, dems, moderates, blue state economic engines, and anything else that fails to be them.

They're not here to solve anything, Tin. They're the equivalent of drunks showing up to a 12 step meeting trolling for drinking buddies.

I won't pretend to have any suggestions for the deep-seated and chronic issues plaguing Appalachia. But I think that as with all else, recognizing the problem exists is the first step towards resolution.

Because power and control, poverty and violence, just seem to be pernicious themes in red states far beyond the worst cases in blue states. Not just a day or two. Generation after generation after generation.

There are 3 pages in the phone book for Baptist churches. That's one denomination. The other pages are dedicated to all others. With so much religion, you'd think someone would step up. Blind obedience to the white guy is what's being taught? Protecting his right to abuse is job one?

Witnessing violence between one’s parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next. (Frieze, I.H., Browne, A. (1989) Violence in Marriage. In L.E. Ohlin & M. H. Tonry, Family Violence. Chicago, IL: University of Chicago Press.

One in ten calls made to alert police of domestic violence is placed by a child in the home. One of every three abused children becomes an adult abuser or victim.

This violence is also cultural, in the form of oppressive business relationships and strict governance with little to no oversight of LE beating the stuffing out of the adults, who in turn go home to kick the kids. Looks to me the real problem with this particular definition of conservative folks are living out in red states is just another brand of abuse in an institutionalized political format delivered on a larger scale.
And you're aware of what is being preached and taught in each of these Baptist churches? Are you spending your Sundays attending church services to conduct surveys? Ma'am, please, just stop the hate.
