Yet it's going to be more difficult not to turn them off because the welfare population is growing at tremendous rates, people are pouring over the border to get in on our very generous welfare programs. A very large portion of our poverty is imported.

Food stamps, being the most common.

How do you fix it? Turn food stamps into a limited voucher system. No more soda, candy, and potato chips. Now you get rice, eggs, and a fruit.

Enjoy.

I see to many people who use foodstamps to buy food I can't afford, and I make really good money. I'm not complaining, but when you buy your needs on your debit card, then pull out the ebt for your steak, soda, and seafood, there is a problem.

They have to be lying about the unemployment numbers.
Conservatives are really impressed by "naming" things without looking at the substance behind what they are naming.

Welfare is a specific thing, not a catchall. Welfare is direct money payments to people. This is welfare.

What they are considering welfare has specific names which are separate from welfare. They are discussing food stamps, and medicaid.

Food stamps are for food mostly for single women and children. Medicaid is mostly for children and the elderly. So when conservatives say 100 million are on welfare, they mean that more Americans are using food stamps or using medicaid.

Again the this is not "welfare" as in direct cash payments. This is women, children and the elderly BUYING FOOD and getting medical care.

Whether it be cash, healthcare, food stamps, free school lunches, etc. provided by state or federal government rather than yourself it is still welfare for the recipient.

The republicans under GWB considered food stamps a nutrition program. They fought to increase enrollment in the program. They viewed food stamps as buying food. Republicans have certainly pushed for expansions in medicaid enrollment, and I don't think Americans realize that the elderly depend on Medicaid to pay for their nursing home stays.

All, I am saying is before you demonize these programs at least find out who is using them, how much they get, and the devastating consequences of taking the program away.

That article is not talking about direct cash welfare payments.

Wouldn't that hurt Walmart? They depend on food stamps to subsidize the low wages they pay. They also depend on the food stamps to sell their junk food.

BS, welfare was a specific program. Everything can't be considered welfare. This is attempting to blur things.

And most of these families have someone working. So they are paying into the state and the federal government or they are children and the elderly.

So yes the elderly who can't work and children who can't work are the PRIMARY beneficiaries of Medicaid and Food stamps. Most of the single moms are working. are paying taxes.

Why would you distinguish -- if it's a free handout from the government, then it's a welfare program. What difference does it make if it's $100 cash or $300 in food stamps, or a $2000 housing voucher that gives you free housing?

Free off this "free handout" stuff doesn't fly with me. Nobody gets free housing. And damn sure nobody gets 2000 a month what a liar.

Again, most of these families have working moms so they are contributing. THIS IS A FACT. The only people getting something for free are children and the elderly.

Children and the elderly are getting food and medical care. Let's be specific in what we are discussing. Direct welfare payments theorectically leaves the government with far less control over what the money is being spent. FOOD STAMPS buy food and MEDICAID pays for children to go to the doctor and the elderly nursing home stays.

By invoking welfare you are not dealing with the specifics of the program who it helps and the form the help talkes. So yes there is a difference in food stamps and direct welfare payments. Welfare is direct cash payments. Food stamps are food stamps and Medicaid is medicaid.

Welfare by definition is financial or other assistance to an individual or family from a city, state, or national government.

30percent of the people on welfare are married.

there are many people that receive free housing via hud programs such as section 8 and low income housing units.

Maybe you need to get out of your lilly white suburbia and found out some facts before trying make claims you know nothing about.
