The move to teach ebonics in Oakland was defeated almost a decade ago and it was entirely a political move to begin with as the state provides ESL funds to districts (additional education funds on top of regular education funds) to help districts which have large immigrant populations. Basically, blacks in Oakland were trying to get their fingers on ESL money by declaring black-English to be a different language. The state laughed at them and the whole thing was voted down almost a decade ago.
Why are right wing conservatives still circulating stuff which was voted down 10 years ago?
The OP might want to change the title to Should we teach American students how to speak standard American English.
I am guess that the OP did not watch the video though.
