You portray yourselves as being free and brave yet can't leave the house without a sidearm. Can't you folks see the contradiction within. You're not free if your fears extend to going around armed all the time and that little tendancy does not indicate bravery but rather FEAR! C'mon here.

You're thinking of the colt's with the backstrap safety needing to be depressed. There are many older colts and other sidearms out there without that extra feature that will indeed fire when dropped if you're stupid enough to carry one around with one up the spout and either hammer all the way back or on the hammerless jobbies simply hit the butt of it hard enough to counter the trigger pull spring.
Attended many courses where carrying racked and ready was demonstrated as being STUPID in the extreme with the older Browning 9MM used as an example by placing in a clamp and giving it a whack on the backstrap, et-voila one goes downrange!

You know, even if guns did not exist, these people would find a way to wreak havoc upon us anyway, who knows, maybe the guy in Co would have thrown a few molotov cocktails down the aisle. The point being, these people are mentally unstable and there is no way of determining what they will do at any given time, guns or no guns. Most legit gun owners/carriers go through life with out anynegative incidents and in fact there are many examples of them defending their own life with a gun. It would be impossible to remove all guns from the U.S., because there are so many illegal guns on the street and for this very reason, it is necessary(I believe) for myself and other law abiding people to have the right to carry. Let see, 300 million+ guns in the U.S. versus one accidental discharge, I wish our highways were that safe! And by the way, it may very well be you who is huddled in your basement, hiding with no way to defend yourself!
This is the problem, you sir are uneducated about guns, safety on or off all semi autos and revolvers of modern design, are made not to discharge when dropped, but there are occasional design flaws/defects and when found, they are recalled and repaired. Guns are tested extensively.

I would look to something being defective about the gun, no gun should discharge when being dropped. I wonder what model it was? He should have been more careful, but accidents do happen, even with guns.
I dont disagree. However if you are going to CCW you had better make damn sure that your firearm is in 100 percent working condition and that you are carrying in a way that would ensure your pistol would not fall out onto the ground.

Some how your post brought into recall a hollywood movie I mostly forget, but where a semi auto hand gun was dropped down a flight of stairs and each time the gun landed it fired, and shot a bad guy, one right after the next
