Bad people are bad, whether they are Christians or atheists. They will always seek a way to legitimize the bad things they do. If that mean citing some obscure scripture to justify murder, so be it. If it means adopting a nihilistic perspective born from atheism, so be it.

I don't see it reflected in politics. There is more acceptance of gays, but now Muslims have become the scapegoats. We're more warlike now. Among the elite establishment, it's just a take as fact we are allowed to attack other countries. Civil liberties are being taken away as well. Torture is now something we do.

I can assure you that if those who are impoverished, those that you have stolen from in order to live the extravagent lifestyle you are accustomed to, would have no problem taking you out if they didn't believe there were any consequences.
Most communists are against religion and profess atheism. Soviet Union and China introduced state atheism. Don't think for a second these lunatic communist wouldn't love to see that here in the USofA. Back in the early nineteen hundreds if you were a member of the russian orthodox church you were most likely shot or sent off to the gulag. Your thinking comes from indoctrination. Furthermore, you self-righteous attitude is just another reason why people think that many religious people are truly ignorant. Why is it that it is more often than not it is the Liberal or Progressive athteist that gives a damn about protesting wars and enforcing environmental regulations?
Why not? Without God, there is ultimately no accountability. I don't know much about other religions outside of Christianity, but Christianity (or the words of Christ) emphasize, discipline, selflessness, humility, and respect.
This is contradictory to what contemporary society values, such as self gratification, narcissism, selfishness, hatred, and lust.
