Cashier at Walmart: $31.86
Me: Do you accept Federal Reserve Notes?
Cashier: Um, no...sorry.
Me: Everyone else does...
Cashier: What are they?
Me: Well they're debt vouchers but they're issued by a private Company, not the Government.
Cashier: let me see them.
She carefully examined the $20, $10 and two $1's bill I handed over...looked at them carefully and read the line stating Federal Reserve Note then said: This looks like money.
Me: But it's not...its issued by a corporation not the government...it represents debt not value....
Cashier: Here's your change...

So...instead of teaching her something, she taught me that people just don't know and don't care...

People also think the National debt can be paid off...it can't...not as long as any bill or coinage remains in circulation...then there still would be no way to repay the interest...because the money owed is greater than the amount in circulation.

People are motivated by incentives.

Nobody cares about theory.

You are correct in saying that people don't know, but it's not cool to make the cashier look like an idiot for no reason. People don't know because they are not supposed to know. Monetary science is not a big secret, but it is also not taught in schools, not even the basics.

Overall she thought it was funny....
I always mess with the cashiers!

Cashier: Would you like your milk in a bag?
Me: No, it's easier to pour from the container...

If you talk to a waiter or waitress at Chilis like that; they will spit in your fajitas.

You can't expect people to know anything about money when a machine has to tell them how much change is due after the purchase .. just sayin'

Regardless of the relative intelligence of the clerk,
I would prefer they didn't do the math in their head.

You guys have no sense of humor!
FWIW when I do that stuff at Chili's and other places, I get great service and usually compliments from the waitstaff for lightening their day....

But I guess you pictured malice in your heart when doing it....we project our intent unto others...

Good point. Getting out of debt servitude for generations seems a good incentive to me.
