I wonder, too, if they've read "The Handmaid's Tale."

Fascinating, isn't it? Men protect their wives and children, and the bad guys leave them alone.

Well worth repeating.

No one wants women to be placed in danger.

Pretending that husbands don't abuse their wives and children is a dangerous pretense.

Pretending that almost one-third of pregnant women who die don't die at the hands of their intimate partners is dangerous pretense.

It's important that women know where the potential threat comes from, that women have the resources to escape their abusers, and that women know how to access those resources. Pretending otherwise is dangerous.

Because Dad has told her to never be afraid to hurt anyone who wants to hurt her, has a BFK (or a Glock - personal choice) in her purse and Daddy has taught her to pull hard and twist. He's also told her that when Bad Guy is laying on the ground screaming in pain and his eyeballs are popping out of his head daughter should walk over, put her size 6M shoe on the guy's throat, lean in and cut off his air supply.

(Have y'all grabbed your privates yet, OP?)
FWIW, my mother taught me to do these things

When you wake up in the middle of the night, with an assaulter's hand over your mouth, with his knee between your legs, and his other hand choking you, and he whispers that he won't hurt you if you just lie still, there are many women who choose the path of least resistance. Because being raped versus dying seems like a viable choice in the moment.

Getting married isn't a guarantee that you won't be sexually assaulted, or beaten, or mentally and emotionally abused. Every 15 seconds, a woman is being abused by a man, and quite often that abuse is being imposed on her by a husband or a boyfriend.

Sounds like you are projecting. I happen to love my man. Doesn't mean I don't see the OP for the nutbag he really is.

The OP never said that marriage guarantees that a woman won't be sexually assaulted - he said that statistically a divorced or single woman is more likely to be sexually assaulted then one who is married.

I've heard of similar excuses made for child marriage and sati practice in India. I guess, America should adopt what was deemed savage and oppressive a long time ago? Or, may be, the Islamic world has a better solution where burqa is a part of it, as is "honor", protections, including curfew and limits imposed based on what some men think is necessary to protect women.
