Why would they train with hollow point bullets?

I don't know, and I see where you're concerned, but the fact is that they can buy any kind of or quantity of bullet they want under the 2nd Amendment. I defend their right to do so, and ours.

Because if you can afford to, you train with what you carry. In a life or death situation, consistency and familiarity are very important.

ETA: Oh yeah, and bulk discounts can be substantial...

Because they are frigging idiots that love to waste your money.

It was a stupid paper pusher decision, meaning it was a non decision.

Not exactly seeing the issue here.

You should train with the ammunition you expect to use and the gun will likely recoil differently with low velocity "target' loads. When you are usuing a gun for real you do not have time to readjust to the way the gun is reacting while being shot. So practice with "real" ammo is the rule.

The existance of the agency itself should be in question.

I shoot JHP's and FMJ ball ammo all the time through all my pistols and revolvers. Almost imperceptable difference in shooting characteristics at normal distances 25yards max.

This was a stupid waste of money and a bone headed decision. That is all.

Pretty much. When spending OTM (other people's money) LE agencies don't bother to differentiate between target ammo and training ammo with the exception of those requiring lead & heavy metal free ammunition. So, ordering hollow point with which to train, as opposed to FMJ (full metal jacket) is the norm. .

First of all as we have seen repeatedly the average cop can't shoot worth a damn anyway. The difference in shooting a round nose v.s a hollow point? My pointman 7 shoots them both equally well. Your average guy shooting wont know the difference because he isnt going for a 2 inch group. He is hoping for center mass. Anywhere in center mass......
I have shot with quite a few cops. They high five if they can land most their shots in a silouette target at 10 meters. Does anyone really think they would notice the difference between a 180 grain hollow point and 180 grain round nose?
