It does sound a bit silly, but again I doubt you'd say the same if your religious ceremony were desecrated... it's not "crap" to those with strong beliefs, especially when the religion in question is so often targeted & hated by Americans. That would make anyone defensive, as I know from personal experience (being a member of the other most-hated faith).
It's just bacon, people need to get a life, nobody is making them eat it and it's no different than an offensive sign, Hate crime? No way, it's childish.

Apparently in this thread you do....which in its totality, doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot.

Pieces of uncooked bacon were scattered at a New York field where Muslims gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan – an incident police are investigating it as a hate crime, authorities said Monday.
Organizers found the bacon on a section of the John D'Amato Field, in New Dorp, Staten Island, where about 1,500 people gathered Sunday to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of dawn-to-sunset fasting during Ramadan.

I'm not much of a "lib" any more but; gizmo980 IS right. Not all Muslims are bad IMHO and I'd be pissed if someone stepped in my holy space with out asking.

Agreed and I knew a Jewish lady who was "Conservative" but, she loved her pork, ham and bacon.

Once again, your anecdotes and individual friends mean nothing in the big picture... many Jews & Muslims do not eat pork, whether it's Easter Sunday (huh?) or whatever day of the year. I've never in my life eaten pork, and have no desire to start any time soon. So good for them, but their violation of Kashrut laws don't exempt everyone from acknowledging (and hopefully respecting) those of us who DO care. I don't give a hoot if you and your Jewish friends eat lobster and ham sandwiches with cheese on top, but stop acting like that is the norm for us.

You apparently missed the post with the video of what happened to the Christians at the muslim event in Detroit. They were not protected, but they were attacked.
Being offended is nothing anybody needs protection from, we all expect to be protected from violence equally.

Haha... true dat.

But I hear/read this crap EVERY time a hate crime or law is discussed, so it seems to be a universal truth for most Americans. Please people, learn the laws before spouting off about them! I don't pretend to know everything (far from it), but usually try to refrain from commenting on that which I don't fully understand... but I guess they think they DO get it, so I'll forgive them for that.
