It was an unquestionably legit case and people referencing it as otherwise didn't get all the facts. However the initial jury award was egregious.

Worth noting that her lawyer's first offer, before court, was basically medical expenses - less than $20,000, if memory serves. But McD's fought hardball, then lied in court, got caught, and basically the jury got mad.
