Since Paul Ryan has entered the race as Mitt Romney's running mate, I've had to hear two long-standing tropes that just annoy the hell out of me. The first casts Mr. Ryan as some kind of "thinker," "intellectual," and "ideas man." The second posits that unlike the Democrats, the Republicans are the "party of ideas." The first is pretty easy to refute: since when did espousing the half-baked economic theories of a third-rate hack novelist beloved by teenage boys make anyone an intellectual?

The oft-repeated line about the GOP being the party of ideas demands more in-depth consideration, mostly because it contains a great deal of truth. Republican policies and initiatives are more likely to be idea-driven, it's just that those ideas are really, really bad. Don't believe me? For your consideration I present the following examples from the great minds at the Republican lab...

Supply Side Economics

Privatization

Neo-conservative Foreign Policy

2nd Amendment Solutions

Laissez-faire

How about they discuss the current mess of, or lack of, ideas that has come out of the Obama camp and how fabulously they have worked out. The Left's plan is failing right in front of our eyes at a record pace!

What is Obamas plan? Because if its not more of the same then why is he not doing it now? If it is more of the same then it will not work.

That is what is going to smoke him come November.

Off course the d'RAT's will always say the Republican's have bad ideas. At least they do have ideas, weather you like them or not, depends on which party you belong to. One thing we can say, however, is they at least have ideas. The d'RAT's have NO ideas. All they can do is demonize the Republican's because they have ideas.

I decided to use my liberal type rights and not read this link since I don't care for it. I wonder if there was anything in it that might have been new thinking for me. Oh well, I don't really care about what they have to say. Thanks for the attempt, anyway.

The Republicans in Congress have blocked almost all of the Democratic attempts to improve the situation for all of us. All the RW wants to do is get more money for the very wealthy and return women to being property.

How does that jive with the flood of illegal immigration which predominantly helps the rich by suppressing wages for laborers and unskilled labor etc?

Could we maybe have one thread that doesn't go off topic in the first reply? Just one? Maybe? Just try it out for fun? Might be neat to have a discussion about the topic in the opening post for a change.

Eh, nevermind. That would require things like reading and formulating a reply based on what was read. Too much effort.

That is a funny story Greggy

I have a more truthful story for you..... the Dems are purposefully running the country in the ground and refusing to bring the banker criminals to justice and make sure that all women have as low a self esteem as possible and leave their husbands for careers in the porn industry
