-when men get rich and old they just marry the youngest supermodels they can find (e.g. Donald Trump), and take advantage of their power and prestige by cheating on their partners and that's okay
-partners cheat on each other or have open relationships often. or just have threesomes.
-women and girls sell their bodies to succeed in life, becoming camgirls or even porn stars.
-married men with the money to do it spend hours a day watching some 18 year old on a camgirl site, while keeping it a secret from their wives...don't even get me started on the men with the nerve to travel to other countries to have sex with children.
-people as dumb as mitt romney are elected to run a country...i mean, no abortion allowed? come on.
-college is an excuse to have wild sex and get drunk...with students thinking more about joining some sorority or fraternity than actually learning.
-people are still paying to eat the trash that mcdonald's and similar chains dish out
-shows featuring obnoxious and stupid members of society are popular on TV...e.g. the kardashians.
-people become obsessed over stupid, reckless celebrities like paris hilton and lindsey lohan, just because they look good and have a lot of money to blow.
-there is an annoying, obnoxious advertisement everywhere i turn. even on dictionary.com.
-people are glued to their 'smart' phones much too often. e.g. throughout class, walking down the street,
-even when climate change and general degradation of the planet is such an apparent issue, so many people are still not doing even the most simple things, like recycling and turning off lights when not in use
-so many people are impolite, engaging in thoughtless violence and thievery, thinking only for themselves, making it an impossibility to even take the bus in many places in fear of coming into contact with these people. like when i took greyhound from fresno to los angeles a week ago--what a nightmare.
-so many smoke cigarettes and buy or do hard drugs when it is so apparent that it will screw a life up. in mexico brutal murders in the name of drug profit is the norm.
-people continue shopping at places like walmart and forever 21, aware that these products were made by workers payed something like 25 cents an hour, only to chuck these items in the trash after a short time since they were made so cheaply in the first place
-most of the world adheres to some religion, thinking theirs is the best. with over 4,000 religions in the world, and the advent of science, it should be pretty obvious that religion is a bunch of bull.
-people are having so many kids, without any consideration that the human population is skyrocketing at a rate that will not be able to realistically support the current demand for resources in this materialistic society

Is it really as bad as I think?

In my idea of a perfect world, recycling and responsible consumerism would be mandated.
Sex would be viewed as sacred, and done with just one special person. Teen porn, cheating, group sex and that sort of thing wouldn't be so popular because adults would have better morals and not feel it's right.
People would stop relying so heavily on fossil fuels, with everyone switching to alternative energy to get around, even if it does cost a little more. Algae biodiesel would be developed and made the norm.
Cigarette corporations would go bankrupt.
People would view their own bodies as sacred, appreciating the lives they were given, not filling it up with trash like Diet Coke and fries.
Parents would not beat their children.
People would not eat meat or seafood, because obviously it's making a big negative impact on the world, not to mention it's unnecessary and is an act of blatant cruelty and lack of compassion.
Sports would not be making so much money and garnering so many viewers. Because there are much more interesting and useful activities besides a bunch of macho men throwing a ball around (hello, this is 2012).
People would get the brains to stop believing in some religion or other, instead focusing on simply being intelligent and loving, and making positive contributions to society, not worrying about some man in the sky, believing that praying to him will actually do anything, or having 50 prostitutes after death if they engage in a suicide bombing.
It would be mandatory that people not have more than two kids. Or better yet, people would be more careful about contraception use in the first place, and not have kids until they're actually fit to look after them (i.e. through with university at least and with a paying job so they won't have to rely on welfare for help)...as well as not having more than a couple kids because they actually are aware of the strain more people puts on the earth.

So you are going to bash the man but not the woman who we damn well know is not attracted to hairy old men on top of her during sex? What's wrong with getting the best mate your money can buy? It makes evolutionary sense.

Who cares if both partners consent to an open relationship? Is there something wrong with that?

Why is this is a problem? An attractive woman has assets like a vagina and boobs that are worth a lot of money. So why shouldn't she be able to monetize her best assets in life while she still can? It makes sense to be a prostitute if your vagina is that highly valued in the free market.

He hasn't been elected. Yeah we do need abortions so we can weed out the dumbasses from the population.

Nothing is free in this world. That website costs money to run. I don't see you donating to their cause so that they can feed their family. Find an alternative solution before bitching about ads.

That stuff has literally 0 impact on the environment. Most of the population has a negligible impact on the environment. Recycling won't save the environment.

I find this to be very much a good thing.

The importance of a good education for children born into less fortunate facets of society cannot be underestimated. It clearly helps them out of the the grips of poverty and into a valuable role in society. I for instance was a foster kid, and most foster kids don't do so well after aging out of the system. Fortunately I got a 2.5 year residency in a transitional living home that provided former foster youth with a free home and food on the terms that I we attended college and held a job. That worked beautifully; now I'm in university and doubt I would have gotten so far if it weren't for that support.

Cynicism isn't helpful but it is certainly important to reflect on what's offbeat in this world and in our communities, so we will be more aware of where we can start looking for solutions.

@capitol Yes, I suppose you're right about ads. BUT do they really have to be so obnoxious, as in billboards nearly the size of football fields and videos that pop up and won't go away?

How would you feel if you had a daughter (or son; yes, there are lots of straight guys doing nasty things for nasty men just for some money) and as soon as she turned 18 she started allowing any sleazebag with the money to come along and inseminate her, one by one, and that's how she got by? You should respect the body you were born in, not desecrate it in the name of money. I don't need religion to know that. Besides, society needs women to fill roles that make a true, positive difference, other than providing some douche with material to jack off with. Spending their youths making excessive amounts of money won't do them much good once they're all old and used up, with a residual reputation as a prostitute, in whatever form that may have been.

And about recycling, I hate to sound cliche, but YES all those little efforts to reduce the amount of waste DOES make a difference. Think of the awful situation the world would be in (as if it isn't already) if all 7 billion people on this earth thought the way that you do; that their vote doesn't help anything, that recycling is worthless, that buying less cheaply made crap they don't need and will end up in a landfill within a few months is pointless.

Even though over half of the 7 billion people on this planet have those "assets"?

That is just the way it is. It is human nature and you can't change human nature. Besides we only get to live once.

So people enjoying to eat tasty seafood and good-tasting animal meat and beautiful women making a lot of money using their body is completely natural.

Life has taught me that you just have to accept things the way they are. And when it comes down to it, we can't really change anything in this universe.

Life isn't fair and will never be fair so why not just deal it and move on?

There's no such thing as a perfect world. Go out, recycle and do all you can to make the world "perfect" but this world will never exist. Humans are imperfect by nature.

What does this have to do with intimate relationships and this forum?

(Not picking on you Slanderous, I know this statement came from the OP)

I subscribe it completely. People make a big deal out of everything and don't realise that in 100 years no one will remember us, what we did or didn't do, what we said or thought, won't have mattered for a second.

Pretty much all of the things listed in the OP have gone on since the dawn of time, and will continue until it ends.
Such is human nature, I'm afraid.

As technology changes, we just find new ways to do them
