The book's publisher said the special operations forces team member did not want to reveal his name to protect himself and his family. But only a day after the New York Times first reported the book was coming out, Fox News reported the author's real name on its website and posted photos of him in combat gear.
That personal security is the sole reason the book is being published under a pseudonym. A senior Pentagon official said Fox News did not contact the Department of Defense ahead of revealing the author's name. Fox did not respond to a request for comment.
Just a day after the publishing house Penguin said it was on the verge of releasing a first-hand account of the Osama Bin Laden raid, Fox News outed the previously anonymous author of the potentially explosive book. Some have criticized Fox News for releasing the author’s name, speculating that if a left-leaning news source had done so, it would have been accused of a lack of patriotism. Others conceded that it was only a matter of time before the author’s real name came to light.
What was the author of that book thinking? He should know better than to expect permanent anonymity. And, he should have known better than to publish a book about such a subject without first getting clearance from the Pentagon. Lifetime secrecy is part of his contract.
I'm betting that book doesn't hit the shelves in it's current form, whatever it is. DOD will put a halt to that until they can see what's in it. And, they should.

And just what makes you think that they can do that?
Because they can't.....
We maybe headed towards being a police state but we aren't there just yet!!!!!
What swines. They claim Obama just announcing that OBL was dead was some how damaging to opsec but then they go and endanger the lives of our troops with their big blabber mouths. What hypocritical pieces of garbage the right wing are.
National Security has trumped free speech for a very long time. I would be very hesitant about writing a “tell all” book about US covert (as in secret) operations. First because it is illegal and second you do NOT want to threaten these kinds of people. They have made a profession of violence and you do not want them to keep it as a hobby.
This disclosure by FOX was well planned in my opinion. This Seal did not want to be anonymous but he couldn't just come out on his own so he leaked it to a friendly 'news' outlet. He is slim for writing this book and putting his ego above what is best for National Security.
