I have been hearing more and more about Socialism and Communism in America lately. More than I ever have in my lifetime. Socialism and Communism used to be just words to me that described the government of other countries where life was not as good as in the good ol USA. So, I didn't pay much attention and really couldn't tell you what the difference between them was. But, now I am taking a hard look at them and learning about what they are and what their goals are. I am first wondering if others are hearing about them more too. Second, do you think that these ideas are really creeping into our American society and government? Thirdly, is there anyone on this MB that does believe in Socialism or Communism or knows people who admittedly are a Socialist or Communist? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Socialism is a balance between capitalism and social justice/equity. Communism you will only hear about when discussing China or in history books. A utopian ideal that has never been acheived.
By the way, the socialist Scandinavian countries are better than the good old USA, due to right-wing rule here since 1981.
The only socialist (unfortunately) in the Senate is Bernie Sanders. I have only heard of people on the extreme right-wing in the US mentioning socialism of late; to them, it is a negative thing and they use it to describe political opponents, regardless of what their enemies' actual politcal philosophy is. There are always Socialist candidates on ballots, but most of the time candidates from the capitalist parties win in this country.
I am a democratic socialist. The only group I belong to is the DSA:

It is not creeping into our lives...we are being hit over the head with a 2X4s worth of it. You could start with our POTUS, his regime, and the Dcat party.

And even "Socialist" countries are really only have Democratic Socialism at best.
It is funny looking at the posts in these threads and seeing people claim Obama is a Socialist or a Communist when they don't know what either of them are or even where their own Republican Party stands.

We will be that third world country you imagined, and obama dreams about.
I could spend an hour showing how obama wants us to be North Korea, but you see it every day, I don't need to explain.
If that corrupt SOB is re-elected, this country will not survive...
It's a good thing you're not a politician. We don't need another crazy, ignorant Conservative in congress. Thanks for illustrating my point.

Understand that today the oligarchy which is our federal government operates a fascist economy and neo-Marxist entitlement and redistributive wealth polices as well as a war against religion.
The OP should read about the 10 planks of Communism and see how may are already in place.
Okay, anyone who says Obama or the democrats are socialist have been watching a little too much fox news. Socialism is the new catch phrase of the day, now that Liberal has lost its luster.
Its just a spin/marketing technique that attempts to envoke ideas of communist russia or china. its just a strawman that can be used to attack a person.
So its a marketing spin, like Greek yogurt. Smart people will pay it no heed. The United States government has always been a quasi-blend of socialism and capitalism.
