If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists - to protect them and to promote their common welfare - all else is lost. ~Barack Obama
So what's wrong with it?
And please spare me with the govt. dependence crap and use welfare as an example, when 2% of the US population is on 100% dependent on welfare.

I suggests a supremacy of the government over the individual- that is what is wrong.
Jefferson, on the other hand, asked that citizens be wary of the federal government. But then again, that is the difference between a communist and one of the founders of the republic.
The statement is fine. It's like saying you support motherhood and apple pie. It's a meaningless political statement that everyone agrees with.
It's the meaning that's flawed. Obama thinks that the Government (Nanny state) is needed to take care of everyone and tell us how to live our lives. He thinks every problem needs a government solution. He is a statist. He loves big government. He wants to grow government, increase government spending and government power.
This clown Obama has possibly the worst presidential record on civil liberties in all of american history.
He should just shut up along with those who think he is a saint.
How is he protecting the "people" by allowing an invasion of illegals who he then makes legal?
General welfare to many includes hi speed internet, big screen TV's, homes they can't afford, cell phones and Ipads and new car payments. To me general welfare means allowing those who want to prosper that luxury. In today's America with all the red tape, regulations and taxes it is a luxury to prosper.
The primary function of the government as conceived by the founders is to protect personal liberty. The second function is to protect this county's physical borders. Obama's administration does neither.
Obama hasn't a freaking clue in his Marxist ideologue head that the primary function of government is not to provide for the common welfare. And, neither would it seem, does the OP understand. Congratulations for being brainwashed in the Socialist public school system of entitlement and dependecy thinking.

It does no such thing. It just says that the role of government is public protection (military, police, fire, FEMA,etc. ) and other issues related to the public welfare, such as safeguarding personal and environmental health. Self-determination is never diminished as a goal. Anyone with minimal skills in critical thinking know that there are things that have to be dealt with at larger scales and others that are under the power of on the individual. The notion that government has no meaningful role in society would have been laughable to the Greeks, because it denies reality. The challenge is not to convince people that government is evil, which is pure braindead ideology, but to work together to do it well.

It is not promoting the common welfare to saddle our children with a prohibitive debt so we get entitlements today.

Government has killed people more than any other cause. (other than natural causes obviously)
What is not evil about that?
Our government is now becoming one of the tyrannical ones in a long line of them that have always existed throughout history.
Of course most people have been brainwashed and have no friggen clue about just about anything other than their sports team.
Universal education is the most corroding and disintegrating poison that liberalism has ever invented for its own destruction. Adolf Hitler

A quote from one of the more evil people in history, however it's dead on and once you understand what he was saying then you will understand our current predicament.
