They want to be able to be self-absorbed creatures without feeling guilty about it, plus they don't want to give up any possible ticket to heaven.

Whenever liberals promote the right to choose they are promoting the ultimate act of selfishness; killing your own child because it is disrupting your lifestyle.

What I find upsetting about this new Rand fetish (and not just with Ryan), is that the divine selfishness thinking is completely incompatible with the sense of community needed to create any rational and decent society. I am shocked that the partisan zombies are parroting things that are shameless creeds for social darwinism. We did all this back in the Gilded Age and we all know how that ended. Only after the Great Depression/ New Deal/ WWII did we get a middle class of any consequence. This thinking goes not only against Christian ideals but the ideals of our country, or for that matter any advanced society.

Or the Republicans who are against "murdering babies," except when the woman has been raped. Can someone explain why it's okay to murder the "baby" in that situation?

Good word twisting. Here's the problem.

Someone like Ryan clings to Rand's philosphy and it is obvious in his policy and budget making. Then he touts his catholic beliefs when he needs some votes.

Its fine to be open to someone else's ideas (yours aren't the only view in America and that dirty word COMPROMISE is often needed), however Ryan is touting his Catholic belief to get votes then dropping them as soon as its inconvenient in his and his cronies agenda to exploit the poor at every chance possible.

Jesus had a word for those people who parade about their faith on their sleeve. They were called HYPOCRITES.

I have very little respect for Paul Ryan but you are misrepresenting his interest in Ayn Rand. Reading her works does not make him MENTORED by her. Unless you are claiming she actual mentored him which given the fact she died in 1982 highly unlikely.

Because it is an annoyance to have a rapist's baby. Would you like to carry your attacker's baby for 9 months? Nothing wrong with selfishness in this case or in most cases.

Yes ... it's an age old idea that most people possessing a sound mind agree with ... it's called "Self Defense". A woman who was raped, and subsequently impregnated against her will, is a victim of a dastardly crime. To then force that person to cary the resulting pregnancy to term could be viewed as forcing her to continue enduring and reliving that horror each and every day thereafter for the entire term of the pregnancy. No one has the right to mandate such a thing.

Any guilt of crime associated with terminating such a pregnancy would naturally be extended to the rapist, and not to the rape victim, who did not give up her right to self defense simply for being a victim, including her right to defend herself against a forced pregnancy.

I'm surprised at the number of grown adults that require such an explanation.

That fact alone ought to put her whole philosophy at odds with Ryan's Catholic up bring. I don't see how he can claim to be such a good Christian and a disciple of Ayn Rand's at the same time.
The duality of Republicans always includes a full measure of hypocrisy.

The only people who would see selfishness as a virtue would be sociopaths, and that's about 10% of the human population; the other 90% have huge problems with such an idea. Why? It's evolution, human beings evolved to live and work as a community. We are the ultimate team players.

From my experience, the vast majority of people who profess to like Ayn Rand, do so because they don't understand her "philosophy."
Truth is, no philosopher takes her seriously and neither should anyone else.
